Thought you guys might find this interesting. One of my Jersey Giant/Production Red crosses has heterochromia.
She's white with black spots, so I'm assuming one of those "spots" just happens to be in her eye.
Whatever it is, I think it's neat. :)
My Jersey Giant roo has always been very laid back and sweet, but lately he has been extremely aggressive.
I gave one of my broody hens a couple chicks abut 3 weeks ago and I now have 2 more hens who have gone broody. Could this be playing a part in the roos sudden aggression? If so, will the...
I crossed my White Jersey Giant to some Production Red girls and twice now I have gotten white chicks with black spots.
Recently I came across a thread talking about how Leghorns X Black Jersey Giants will produce the white chicks with black spots because of Leghorns being dominant white on...
Soooo...my eggs are due to hatch in 3 days and I went to remove them from the turner and when I went to unplug it I realized IT WAS NEVER PLUGGED IN AT ALL!!! AHHHHHHHHH!!!!!!!! *cry*
I put the eggs in right before leaving town for about a week(hubby was there to keep an eye on them) and I must...
This little cutiepie popped out of an egg today and I'm curious if it's possible to peg down who the parents are? I have multiple possible daddies, but only a couple hen possibilities.
Possible moms: Production Red or White Jersey Giant.
Possible dads: White Jersey Giant, Wheaten Easter Egger...
My husband and I live on 1 acre out in the country and I've been tossing around the idea of getting a bucket calf(bull) to raise up for meat. My husband works at a dairy farm up the road, so we have easy access to cheap calves and supplies. I have a few questions though...
1) Will half an acre...
My broody hen must have gotten out of her nest to eat and when she came back she went to the wrong box. When I checked on her the eggs were cool to the touch, which means she must have been off of them for a while.
I put her back on her eggs, but am now worried about them. Will they be okay? :(...
I have a production red girl(a supposedly non-broody breed) that decided after a year and a half she suddenly wants to go broody. >_<
Is it normal for an older, "non-broody" hen to up and go broody all of the sudden?
I don't know if it makes a difference, but my bantam girls are starting to go...
We don't have an AC in the kitchen(only window units in the bedrooms), so it can get pretty toasty on hot days. Since we don't refrigerate my eggs do I need to worry about them starting to develop because of the heat? We usually sell the majority of our eggs and I would hate for people to get...
I've got a few extra roos from a straight run assortment I got from Cackle Hatchery. All are purebred. They're 3 months old and most are already crowing.
Here's a list of what I've got:
2 Crele Old English Game(1 is already crowing)
1 Barred Rock(already crowing)
1 Black Rosecomb(already...
I butchered my rooster over 4 weeks ago, but I just cracked open a couple eggs(laid this morning) and they were fertile...
I do have some bantam roosters that are out with my girls, but they're only 3 months old(12 weeks and a couple days). Most of them are already crowing. Is it possible that...
My Barred Rock boy(our only adult rooster) has decided he no longer likes me...He doesn't go out of his way to attack me, but lately when I go near him he'll puff up and try kicking me(well, my foot...he seems to have it out for my foot). I'm not sure what else to do, so I stand my ground and do...
My rooster is a Barred Rock and his hens are Barred Rock and Production Reds. I was curious what kinda of chicks would be produced from the Production Red girls? Would they all be sex-able from day 1?
Soooo...I recently got an assortment of 25 different bantams and I plan on keeping at least 2 roosters. With them all being different types of batams(old english, silkies, japanese, brahma, etc...) will that cause problems with any babies that I allow to be hatched naturally?
I didn't really...
I just ordered some bannies and would like to let them be free-range. We already have a dozen chickens(Barred Rocks and Production Reds) that we have in a coop and run and I hate it. The run is nice and big, but even with it's big size the chickens managed to mow down everything green within the...
