Hi All,
I thought that I'd start a thread on gardening in hot and humid zones as so much seems to be geared towards temperate climates. I live North of Brisbane and am on a huge learning curve after moving from a temperate climate 6 years ago. I'm a bit late this year due to exams and it is so...
I've found homes for 6 roos already and missed rehoming one that is crowing now. It's off tomorrow, but I don't want to then have another start crowing. Sprinkles is nearly 14 weeks old, is she definitely a she?
I have 11 chick & can't believe how much red I'm seeing in their combs. Any advice on gender will be much appreciated. I haven't had this breed before so I'm not sure if I'm guessing correctly. I hope to move them to their new homes before any crowing starts.

I thought I'd share some stories of my chooks that I'm raising in Queensland. We have a sub-tropical climate here so no frost, much less snow. I started with 6 chicks from Heritage Hatching and Hens.
I chose utility hens for my learning curve and have been very happy with them. We bought...
This one has always been my favourite, but I am concerned about the size of her huge legs. They are both 4 weeks old. She is the biggest chick, shy and gentle. She is also the only one that hasn't grown a tail.
This chick was tagged at 2 weeks for being extremely aggressive on their first...
I bought terramycin spray & amprolium over the internet to have in case of emergencies. The terramycin spray expires in Feb 2015 & the amprolium expires in April 2015. I expected them to last a bit longer than that if unused. Did I receive old stock or is this the norm for these products?
Snowy is a leghorn cross called a Long Lay & I believe they are not supposed to go broody. However, she has taken to sitting on all the eggs all morning. I have five hens & they usually lay an egg each day in the morning. I'm not sure if Snowy waits for the others to lay their egg (they only...
I've had chickens since Valentine's day this year and all five are laying regularly now. The last two days I've put the eggs aside for my neighbours closest to the run. I'm going to go over with the kids after school to give them ten beautiful eggs & find out how they feel about having...
A breeder in my area has Wyandotte chicks. I sent him a query and advised him that we cannot have roosters & to confirm that the chick would be a girl. He has told me that he can match the age of my current chicks but did not answer about whether they try to determine the gender or not before...
We have bought posts and mesh to build the run which is going to be detached & connect to the coop via a short tunnel. The dimensions are 2m by 4m. My husband has dug the post holes about 20cm deep and hit clay. He's declared that nothing is going to dig under that and stopped. He also does...
I purchased 6 sexed chicks - 2 ISA browns, 2 Australorps & 2 Heritage Long Lays. They are 5 weeks old now. I'm highly suspicious that one HLL may be a boy because his legs are noticably thicker than the others ,he has a much wider space to grow a comb but nothing showing yet while all the...
Hi Everyone,
I decided to repurpose my kids play house instead of getting rid of it. I have 5 chicks & we need to start working on the run. I am wondering whether I should buy snake proof fencing (very expensive), aviary fencing (less expensive) or if chicken wire (least expensive) will be...
