I bought this chicken a little over a month ago. At the time both the seller and I were confident it was a pullet, but now I'm not so sure. The tail feathers in particular are making me nervous. What do y'all think?
I have some eggciting news. As we all know, peeling hard boiled fresh eggs is a major pain. I've tried all the methods-adding salt to the water, poking a hole in the end, adding baking soda to the water, standing on one leg, boiling the eggs at midnight when the moon is dark. None of them...
For those who enjoy Role Playing Games, a new board is starting up for one based on the Dresden Files series of books. For those who aren't familiar with the books, its a Urban Fantasy series, sent in a world not unlike our own. Except for the fact that all the thing that go bump in the night...
All of my birds lay in the same nest, I've got a broody Buckeye (she's been broody for a couple of days now) who is sitting on the communal nest. So far I haven't tried to move her, so she's sitting on a couple of days worth of eggs. My grandmother had told me that she'd start to chase the...
In the nest box today were six eggs. Five were perfect and intact. The sixth had a hole pecked in one end, and had been ripped open. I'm not sure if it was eaten since, as far as I could tell, the contents of the egg were in the nest box and on the remaining eggs. If it was an egg eater, why...
A friend of mine is thinking about ordering from them. I couldn't find any reviews, and wondered if anyone had ordered from them, and, if so, what your experience was.
I have eight pullets that I bought as day old chicks from My Pet Chicken at the end of August. I've got:
2-EE's
2-Buckeyes
2-Barred Rocks
1-Delaware
1-Blue Andalusian
Of these, only the Blue Andalusian is supposed to lay white eggs. Every day for the past eight days there has been a small...
Hatchery stock, but are healthy, good tempered birds. She hatched August 21st, and should start laying in the spring. You can either pick up the bird or have her delivered, delivery is only within the Phoenix Metro area. If interested PM me, or call 480-358-7679.
I went to the feedstore today, to get a bale of straw. They were out of straw, but they had chicks. Cute, fuzzy week old chicks. I was helpless. Their evil chick mind control powers were too much for me, and I bought five. Then I went home and set up my brooder, which now has 3 Easter...
I had been so stupid, and stupidly proud of how well my oldest son (who is six) had been doing watching the chicks in the morning, in case any neighborhood cats came to try to eat them.
Then, I go out there this morning, and find out he'd decided to give them a bath, in a bucket that had a few...
I wasn't expecting them until this afternoon, or possibly tomorrow, but at 9 am I got a call from the Post Office to come pick them up. So, I called my Mother-in-law, and she drove with me down to the Post Office, reminiscing about the baby chicks they used to get when she was little.
Luckily...
Society for Creative Anachronism, that is.
I was just curious, since a lot of Scadians are into DIY activities, and it doesn't get more DIY than raising your own livestock.
Hi!
I'm new to the board and to raising chickens. We're buying a house, and the city we're moving to allows chickens, so we're going to raise a small backyard flock, primarily for eggs. I'll be asking all kinds of questions as we get set up, in fact I've already started a thread.
As you can guess from my user name, I live in Arizona. It gets extremely hot in the summer, and we're trying to decide wether it would be best to get the chicks in June (once we are settled in our new house), wait until September, so that the chickens will be moving outside when it starts to...
