My Silkie pullet has been laying everyday about five weeks now. The last couple of days I thought she might be getting broody and she has been laying increasingly large eggs, so I've worried about her struggling with that. She's spending almost all day in nest box, I Took her out yesterday...
Any ideas how to correct this? Silkie Chick was feeding them wetted starter food , when I noticed this chicks bottom beak going to the side I found dried on food in the corner of its mouth. Not sure if it was the food or this is a defect.
I have a Silkie Chick that is about nine hours old and can't seem to get in a prone position. Quite active and is doing a shuffle dragging its tail on the bottom incubator. Should I be doing something to correct this? Will post photo next.
Day 19 have eight eggs in lockdown and first to pip is towards pointy end, Pipped and stopped, just made sure the chick could breath. It squirms and taps beak together but no chirping. I'm assuming it's not breathing air yet because of lack of chirping and that it's not ready to hatch yet...
My chick has a toe on each foot that have shed a small splinter like claw with bleeding. The toe and claws almost seem a bit deformed on each foot. The bleeding stopped after the claws shed. Is this normal and is there anything I should be doing for this?
I have a one week old Silkie chick that has a dark runny droppings about 3-4 times a day. They're both eating medicated chick starter crumbles, only one has the issue. Is this normal? Also wondering if I should be giving them anything else to eat or medications? They are strictly in the house...
Second batch of Shipped eggs not looking good, first batch nothing developed, this batch appears to have quit close to lockdown time. Probably going to try again and wondering what the consensus is about incubating air cell up in carton or on side? My second hatch I cut holes in bottom of...
We are hours away from it being day 21, thought I heard peeping early this morning, then I realized my bedroom window was open and it was coming from the sparrow nest in the eaves. :-) Realizing now that I have been keeping my still air incubator around a constant 99-100 degrees, tad bit...
Three of my six remaining eggs the veins are not clear in them and they appear to slosh around at the tip. Should I cull them before lockdown? They all had clear veins and movement at day 12, these were the eggs that I suspected having doubles.
Second batch of shipped Silkie eggs six out of sixteen have chicks developing and one has two embryos in it. I was hoping for an extra chick in one of the possible quitters, be careful what you ask for, LOL! Anyway I really do not know what to do everything I've read so far looks like assisted...
