We often have a number of eggs in the incubator that are set at different dates. We move them to a hatcher i build on lockdown day. I use pencil to mark the eggs but would like to use a Sharpie. Will a Sharpie hurt the eggs/chicks?
Thanks
We butchered 2 of our heritage tom turkeys this week,. They were 9 months old, one Spanish Black and one Narraganset. The weighed 17.5 lbs clean.
What amazed us was the fat content. My flock is free range and eats a 50/50 mix of 17% lay pellet and 30% turkey starter. The chickens share in...
Perhaps those of you who raise turkeys for meat can answer my questions. I have raised BBB birds for the tele and harvested about 5 1/2 months . Excellent size and taste. Now I have a flocks of mixed heritage birds of differing ages
When is the best time to harvest these birds? Do you pen...
I have a flock of dirrerent aged heritage turkeys. At what the best age to process those birds? I have raised the broad breasted variety and they were good at 5 months. I know heritage take much longer.
Do they get tough as they get older? Mine free range so i would likely have to pen some...
I recently purchased some Premier 1 poultry netting. I put it up according to instructions and it does deliver a shock. But not enough to keep out the raccoon(s). They managed to get in the area and pull off two turkey heads through the hoop coops last night.
The bottom of the fence rests...
A couple of weeks ago we lost a female goat to a coyote. We have a 4' fence surrounding our property and there is a strand of barbed wire roughly 3" of the ground. There was a dig under at a low spot and that is where the coyote got in. That area has be closed off.
This morning we lost one...
I bought him about 5 months ago from a fellow who had three turkeys to sell. He thought this was a Narragansett but was not sure.
Has marking of a Narragansett and also some bronze features.
Thanks

We just bought three turkeys that are about a year old. A hen and two jakes. Their tail feathers are in terrible condition. Will they re-grow those feathers.
Thanks

Can someone who has purchased from this group let me know your experience? I see they sell a medium breasted turkey along with a broad breasted turkey. Can the medium reproduce naturally?
thanks

Does anyone have any pictures of some 12 week old BBB turkeys? Ours are 12 weeks and a couple of days old. Here is one of them. We are new to this turkey stuff and as my wife and I say often...."these ain't chickens". They are a hoot.
Tom or hen??? what do you think?
Thanks in advance...
We have 5 BBB turkeys that are 12 weeks old. We recently started free ranging them and they are the most curious creatures I have ever seen.
Yesterday, we had some new visitors who went out to the barn. When those turkeys saw new people them began to make a lot of noise and came up to them...
Hello
We are new to turkeys and have 5 BBB that are growing very well. They are progressing according to the chart below (pulled this off a hatchery web site) and in fact are slightly ahead. They are 11 weeks old and the tom's weigh 13 lbs. We have them on a 30% feed.
Question is free...
I have a question for those of you who raise BOs. We ordered turkeys earlier this year and got a surprise of 19 Buff Orpington chicks as packing peanuts. Ideal Hatchery told us they were all males. We started them on the same feed as the turkeys which is 30% protein. They are now 11 weeks...
We are new to turkeys. We have 6 BBB turkeys that are 7 weeks old. I weighed one the other day and he/she was 7.5 lbs. Is this a normal growth pattern? Do any of you have a growth chart for this breed?
Thanks in advance,

We had three PPR hens as part of a Ideal Hatchery surprise pack. These are beautiful chickens. We think so and so do the coyotes. We now only have two.
Would like to build some of these into my flock. Can anyone here recommend a good place to purchase some chicks or eggs?
Thanks and...
We free range our birds and some coyotes stopped in for a Sunday Chicken Dinner. We are now down a few birds.
One that was taken was a Partridge Rock hen. Does anyone know a breeder? Would be interested in some pallets or eggs.
Thanks

Any help here would be appreciated. This bird was in our surprise pack of pullets. He/she is 7 1/2 weeks old. No comb to speak of and is the least friendly of the bunch. She (let's assume pullet) is more bold than the others and will challenge the big chickens for a spot on the top roost...
We recently opened the door on the run and let the birds out. We have a few acres and they have all the room they want to roam and eat. These chickens range in age from 4 weeks to 12 weeks.
Almost immediately the food consumption dropped. We expected it to drop a little but they are eating...
Last night I learned that I had some Salmon Faverolle chicks. Now I need help identifying this one.
She is two weeks old today. Part of an Ideal Surprise Package.
