Group of four Royal Palm Turkeys. 1 Male, 3 Females.
They are approximately 5.5-6 months old and are BIG. Male is VERY big!
Pictures available upon request (no pictures at the moment but I can go and take some).
They were never given medicated feed and are currently enclosed (for their own...
I breed tropical freshwater fish in the family Cichlidae, so I am familiar with all the vitamins and minerals included in feed formulas.
However, there are a couple ingredients in this one famous brand's feed I am not familiar with.
Here they are, for the feed labeled "Layer Pellets". The ones...
Wasn't sure where to ask this question since there was a "General Discussion" or "General Poultry" section...
Anyway...:
Are store-bought poultry (chicken and turkey) fed medicated chick feed when they are chicks?
Just wondering since it is recommended when you buy chicks to feed them...
When ours get older (as big as the adult hens) can they eat layer pellets?
We feed BlueSeal Layer Pellets.
Blueseal layer pellets have 16% protein.
Right now they and the pullet chicks they are with are eating BlueSeal Chick N' Game Bird Starter/Grower Crumbles which has 22% protein.

We just have a small flock of hens in our backyard. Before we start offering eggs to neighbors for $1-2/dozen (or free...) and maybe put a sign up does anybody know if there are any laws prohibiting this?
We live in a residential suburban area. The town specifically is Long Branch, NJ in...
Right now we have all our chickens in a HUGE run with a 5ft fence we put up. Recently because the escapes started to occur more frequently (several times a day instead of once a week!) we had to clip the flight feathers on a few but here's my stories (sorry no pics!).
We have Silver Spangled...
We have a Gold Comet juvenile we bought as a female that is about 5-7 weeks old now (growing fast!).
While her comb appeared about a week or two ago it is still pale buff-pink color and still looks feminine to me but it's worrying me since they are supposed to be color-sexed, plus we asked a...
Our first two hens to lay, an Ameraucana layed last Sunday and Tuesday and a RIR hen layed her first egg last Wednesday.
Both haven't laid since, neither has our Cuckoo Maran, other RIR, Buff Orp, and Barred Rock all also 25-30 weeks old.
Anybody have any idea what is going on or if this is...
WE didn't get ours directly from Mt healthy, we got them from feed stores that ordered all pullets from Mt Healthy...
Out of 3 Silver Laced Wyandotte Chicks and 3 Gold Laced Wyandotte Chicks, all sold as pullets, 2 of the Gold Laced and 2 of the Silver Laced were roos.
Out of 6 Ameraucana mutt...
Here's our silkie pics of ones we aren't 100% sure on the gender. We included a pic of an obvious red silkie rooster for comparison. They are 2-4 months old.
Just took these pics after a rainstorm...
First pic... This white silkie grew the fastest out of all of them:
Comb is soaking wet on...
Are Gold Comets the same as Red Star or Red Sexlinks?
And what breeds are involved in making the Gold Comet chicks?
Just curious on what breeds are mixed in with my one and only hybrid chick...

We need to sell a bunch of our excess male and female silkies and Mille Fleur d'Uccles (technically Belgian Booted Bantams).
The silkies are about 12-15 weeks old, and the Mille Fleurs are about 3-4 months old. The silkies have been living outside with adult hens for the past month, and the...
Is it safe to feed Layer feed to a flock with birds about 10-20 weeks old also when there's adult hens (7) in the same flock?
Or would the extra calcium that early be bad for the younger pullets?
~Ed
I have a couple 25 week old hens that should lay any day now.
But they are in the same pen with both males and female chickens 13+ weeks.
Is it okay to feed ALL of them layer crumbles instead of Grower-CAL, or should I mix the grower crumbles with the layer crumbles, or should I just provide...
We have silkies about 1-2 months old now...white, red, buff, and lavender.
Two are OBVIOUS roos with super huge combs that are bicolor (lower parts are the normal blue/black, while the top is some shade of pink).
However, only like two have zero comb development and appear to be guaranteed...
I remember a few posts with people claiming that D.E. can also be used in the chickens water supply to help sterilize it from any potential bacteria build up.
Is there any truth to this? D.E. is a saline insecticide, so wouldn't it just dissolve in the water and nothing more happens? Or does it...
From our craigslist ad: http://cnj.craigslist.org/grd/1245404303.html

Any ideas on keeping the chickens from eating grass for a few days? I just put fertilizer down the other day (pesticide-free kind, watered the hell out of it to make sure it was all dissolved) and want to give it a chance to work for the grass.
Any ideas on cutting the grass eating down a bit...
