Time to remove eggs from nest?

My hen hatched 5 of 8 eggs. This morning when I checked on her and the babies, she had ripped the nest apart. She is still sitting on the eggs but she has them on the patch with no straw. It is two days since the last baby hatched out, so is it time to remove the unhatched eggs? Is that her way...

    No hens are broody

My birds are about 1 1/2 years, so far none of them have molted which I understand is normal, but is there an age range for them wanting to hatch babies? They are Orphingtons and have been laying for about 10 months (I think) if that helps.

    Raccoon repellent?

Is there anything that will repell raccoons? I have a big one that gets in the coop at night, He ripped though a trap I had set out and now he won't go in any trap I have.

Had to cull my first hen :(

My birds were sick a while back, I got them all through it. One of my original birds (6 chicks raised by me) was never quite right afterwards. I think she had brain damage from the really high fever she ran while she was sick and in quarantine. I was keeping an eye on her and trying to figure...

    Molting

My birds are over a year old now and they have never molted. I thought they were supposed to at least once a year. Is it possible I missed it? Do they have to molt? They are Orphingtons.

Hi, My name is jacilee and I am a chicken addict,

Okay, so I had to confess to buying 14 chicks earlier this year. Now I need to confess again I went to the store and these chicks (8 of them), they started peeping at me, it was so sad, they wanted to come home with me. I told them no but they wouldn't hear it. They forced their way into a...

    Strange chick in yard

For the last week or so there has been a very strange bird in with my chickens, it is a purple martin. It lets me get within inches of it before it flies away and then comes right back when I move away. It actually moves the large chicks out of its way and I thought it was going to go in with...

    Anything else to do?

So I got older chicks over last weekend and in checking them over daily for mites and other issues I found one with a rock hard crop. I massaged it and it went down a bit by the next day. Last night I massaged it a little more and it was not quite as large or hard. Today I checked all of them...

    Whoops I did it again

Ok, I admit this is my fault . Last year hubby fell prey to chick days, so we went home with 6 chicks that I picked out, I managed to pick 1 roo and 5 hens and keep them all alive first year out. So over the weekend chick days got here and I was looking at them, I was considering getting some...

    Spoiled brats of birds

I think my chickens might be a tad bit spoiled. They won't hardly touch pellets, won't eat dried grain and if they do the corn is the last to go, don't eat apples, won't touch lettuce to the point of looking at me like I am trying to poison them. They love tortillas and bread but no crackers...

    Some questions

Okay. I was right in my intro post, 5 hens and 1 roo. I am wondering about some stuff so here I am. I have Orphingtons only. My rooster has started flopping his head from side to side, not constant just now and then, I chalked it up to him trying to be bossy and show intruders (hubby and son, he...
