    Swollen abdomen

Hi, we have a 4 year old hen that has a swollen abdomen and walks funny. Her abdomen is firm and not squishy. She is eager to eat and comes to the fence when we come near the coop to see if we have food. She has not laid eggs since last Fall, but she has stopped laying every winter and at other...

    Is this just old age?

Our older hen is no longer laying. She is 3 years 9 months. She seemed sick for about a month, barely eating and we were sure she was not going to make. Then she molted all her feathers. Now she seems healthy again, eating fine, but is still not laying. The rest of her looks back to her normal...

We were told our hen was a Dorking, but now I am questioning it based on some descriptions I was reading. Any ideas on her breed? The one on the right I am wondering.

    Older hen not eating

We can't see any sign of trauma or anything unusual. I was outside an hour ago and she seemed fine. Is there anything we should look for...

Is it a he or a she?

We are still pretty new to raising chickens. We bought our first 4 babies in April and 3 of them ended up being cockerels (we only want hens). We then had one lonely chicken and 3 new babies. Now those new babies are almost 4 months old. Our oldest hen is almost 6 months old and is a Dorking...

    Lonely chicken

So thanks to this group we realized we had three cockerels and got rid of them. Now we have one lonely girl. Anything we can do to prevent her from getting depressed? We bought 3 new babies today to start this process all over, hopefully with better luck this time. It will be awhile before...

    "Chickens" started crowing like rooster

A couple of days ago our largest chicken started crowing like a rooster in the morning. It sounds really loud and is a "hee-hee-hee" sound. We removed her to the garage overnight hoping it would help. This morning the next largest chicken started making the same sound. What is going on? Here...
