So I'm keeping my eye out every day for Roos in my baby chicks. Already at 3 weeks, my blue Wyandotte is showing signs of being a cockerel, but I'm waiting on my Cochins to show some signs. I was looking for progressive pictures to see what to look for when I came upon this link...
I think I found my first roo! And they're only 3 weeks old. I didn't expect to see any changes already! He's a blue wyandotte and by the way he's been acting, I felt like he was a roo. Now I think it's a good chance he is one. Anyone agree?
And to compare, these are my two other Wyandotte...
And I've never raised one before. I picked her out because I know they're supposed to be very friendly birds. This chick is about 2.5 weeks old and she's much more skittish than my Cochin and Wyandotte chicks. Anyone have any experience with austrolorps? Think she'll be more friendly and calm as...
I just got 3 blue cochin chicks, along with 3 blue wyandottes and 1 austrolorp. They're now about 2 weeks old and their wing feathers are coming in and showing their colors! My blue Cochins are not blue though, so far at least. I read about blue not being "true" and you can get splash as well...
I just got 3 blue Cochins, 3 blue wyandottes, and one austrolorp and I'm crazy excited! They're still just a few days old, but I'm reading up on the breeds all over the place because I've always wanted these little guys :) anyone have any stories or comments about them they wanna share?

I may be asking/expecting too much... But I thought I'd ask anyway.. But I really want to get a Cochin and maybe a Wyandotte as pullets and only one of each. I have some chicks now, but couldn't find the two I was looking for. Is it even possible to get just 2 pullets from any hatcheries?
After the tragic disappearance of my lovely pet New Hampshire red, Jemima, I needed to fill the absence with a new pet chicken. She was super friendly, with the added bonus of yummy eggs. I went to an acquaintance's farm and picked out a buff orpington for their known friendliness and, not to...
Hi! So, I've been fostering a group of 11 muscovy ducklings ever since their momma got eaten when they were eggs and ended up hatching as orphans.
It's now day 48 and yesterday I suddenly noticed one of my females was missing part of her bill. There wasn't any apparent blood and I didn't see a...
