24 weeks and not a single egg

My chickens are 24 weeks now, and I haven't gotten a single egg yet. I have several different breeds, and I know some take longer than others, but I was expecting at least a few to have started by now. They all have nice bright red combs and wattles now, and look as healthy as can be. And they...

    squirrels eating feed?

I have 15 chickens about 17 weeks old (13 brown egg layers 2 buttercups) and I am buying a 50 lb bag every week (maybe 1.5 weeks). I haven't had chickens in a few years but I don't remember them eating so much! I toss them greens every day, and leftovers and fruit several times per week. They...

    10 week silver grey dorking

Is this a cockerel? I'm assuming yes because of the big red comb, but the coloring compared to photos I've seen are making me doubt myself. Do the white feathers on the back come later? I'm just not familiar with this breed at all. Thanks! And sorry about the blurry photos, he likes to keep his...

    vaccination and medicated feed

So I have chicks coming from the hatchery this week and I checked the box to have them vaccinated for coccidiosis. I bought their feed and just realized I got medicated. I know it will nullify the vaccine, but is that the worst it will do? Its not going to kill or hurt them right?

    red or white bulb? wattage?

My chicks are coming at the end of May, and their brooder will be going out in the chicken coop (using a large Rubbermaid footlocker). I have always used a white bulb before, I'm not sure what the wattage was, but they were also kept in the basement. (Husband says outside this time.) Is a red...

    Put the brooder outside?

So we are expecting 15+ chicks at the end of May, I've raised two batches of chicks before, and have only lost one (from shipping). Its been four years since we had chickens and currently we don't have any. My husband wants the brooder to go out in the coop this time because of all the dust, but...

    Any Yorkiepoo owners out there?

So, once we move to our new house, we can (finally) get a dog. My husband is allergic to most dogs, but not the non shedders. So Yorkies are non shedders, but I'm not a huge fan of terriers, and poodles are great family dogs, but (and I'm so sorry if I offend anybody's best friend) but my...

I just need to vent about my MIL

Okay, so my husband and I live in a duplex owned by his parents, they also own a house. We (actually I) recently just closed on buying their house from them. They moved in to the other side of the duplex and we are moving to the house once they are completely out. So his mother is not quiet...

Should I put the babies outside?

So my 5 week old chicks are out in the coop now with the 1 year olds. They were visible but separated at first and then supervised, then let free. Except for the occasional "putting you in your place" they pretty much leave each other alone. So first, except for the occasional taste, I'm...

    My babies are growing up

They are close to 5 weeks now. So far I don't really think any of them are looking rooish, but I'm keeping my fingers crossed. The pictures aren't too great, but what do you think?

Has anyone seen this coloring on an EE before?

I don't recall seeing anyone post a bird like this before. This is Feisty (hopefully a she). I think she's beautiful, my husband doesn't believe she's a chicken. I can't wait to see her full grown. Does anyone have a bird colored like this? Pheasant feathers on the bottom and leopard spots...

What did you get for your free rare chick from McMurray's?

My chicks are coming next month, and well obviously I'm excited. And I'm speculating about my free rare chick. What did everyone get as their rare chick when they ordered? Do they always end up being a rooster? I'm keeping my fingers crossed for a Buttercup of course (I keep checking to see...
