I started these six Red Sexlinks May 09', been free-ranging them. Three were taken in two different occasions due to dogs, during the day. The last three were on the loose roaming everywhere for over a year without an incident. They would greet me nearly every day at the rear garage door, then...
Coop has been holding up pretty well this winter and birds doing well also. I posted pics on My BYC Page.
I have been off for a while, like to see how every one is making out this winter?
Last week I had a hen with a wound on the base of its tail. I separated this bird and dressed its wound with Blue-Kote gave it a couple of days, the other just started in again pecking at it. I separted it again and then this morning I now have four out of six bleeding and being pecked. All now...
Had our first snow of the season today. Last few days the morning temps have been hovering around 28°-35° and day temps in the 40°'s. I have been leaving the pop door open 24-7, no light bulb or any other form of heat, the birds seem to be enjoying the cool weather. Egg production as been very...
I recieved a coupon for TSC in the mail yesterday, $10 off on a $25 purchase, 40% off! Three bags of Layer Crumbles for $24.83, not too bad... anyone else taking advantage of this coupon???
I have six Red Sex Links, 5 months old. They are laying well, usually 4 eggs a day, sometimes 5. I'm usually able to collect my eggs by 9:00am. I have a friend that told me she has to collect eggs morning and afternoon. Curious how unusual this is??? What time are you able to collect your eggs?
I have six Red Sexlinks and three nesting boxes. They seem to use the two end nesting boxes, no problem. The center nesting box keeps getting cleared out of all the nesting material, straw? Unusual behavior? Any explainations? Not a major problem, just curious. Thanks!
My first two eggs were double yolkers. Is it just a young bird's repoductive system or will this be fairly normal for this bird? I would receive a double yolker every once in a while with my previous birds, but two in a row now? Got me curious and want to brag a little too I guess.
I've been told that the sex links start laying earlier, excactly what am I to expect? When should I have the nesting boxes ready? Any information would be greatly appreciated.
I made this afternoon, it fits like a glove in my small coop. I did modified it a little from other examples on here. Two fill tubes at each end to hold more feed and to keep the holes full easier. Hung it by a couple of screws for easy removal for cleaning and used 3"to 4" coupler as a funnel...
I was out working on the coop and came in to check on the chicks and found one bleeding on her whole upper wing. I thought I had one chick pecking at it then saw another doing it? I removed the wounded one to another box. I then saw another chick bleeding a little at its ear? Any ideas on what...
I'm from central NY. I haven't had chickens for 11-12 years and since retired decided to get some birds again. My old coop is in pretty bad shape and wanted something better, new and improved. I did a little search for coop designs and here I am. Great site with a wealth of information! My new...
