My coop is a room sectioned in my shed with a predator proof covered run attached. I have a small door that let's the ladies into another run that is uncovered but fenced.
Over the summer we used have a heart traps and caught multiple groundhogs and a skunk under the shed.
Fast forward and...
I think I have 3 EE, 2 silkies, a polish, & a sizzle or maybe it's a frizzle?
I'm mostly just wondering male or female on the EEs (gray, reddish, brown/gold) and the polish. They're 10 weeks old.
I'm pretty sure my white silkie is a pullet and the other 2 are bantams so I'm just going to wait...
I have 8 birds, ages 5 months to 9 months. About 2 months ago the 3 oldest stopped laying and one slowly started to lose her feathers starting near the combs then down the neck to her body. I regularly inspected her bc my first thought was mites but I could see all the feathers in early stage...
This bird is odd...always has been. I think it's an EE roo but at 18 or 19 weeks all I hear is loud clucking. Small light comb and skittish as anything. Everything about it says he minus the crowing. Can you confirm? Thank you!!!
Hi! Hoping someone can help me figure this one out. I thought my chick was an australorp but at 6 weeks I see it is now growing feathers on it's legs. It is all black and still has a white spot on it's chest and neck and has gray legs.
I'm trying to get a good picture. This is one scrappy and...
My flock is dwindling...I just rehomed 4 roosters and the next day another started crowing. Once I remove him I'm afraid this one will start. Any thoughts, about 14 weeks here
? Thank you!!
My cream legbar hatched w all the markings of a female but just wondering if she is really a she?
I have no clue what the white one is. Any ideas? Guesses on gender would be great too!
Hi!
I just hatched cream legbars, EE, jersey giant, and barred Plymouth rocks. 2 chicks are standing out and I'm not sure which group they belong to.
My guess is the dark one is a jersey giant but he's so much bigger than the others but he has different coloring so maybe a large PBR?
Both...
Hi everyone,
Thank you in advance for your help. I've had 10 chicks hatch (all unassisted) out of 24 so far, one on day 21 and the rest today, on day 22.
Chick #8 is struggling...he zipped fine and instead of resting like the others in the bottom shell he immediately dragged himself and the...
Hi everyone,
I am on Day 1 of my first hatch. I'm so excited to see how many and who hatches. I set far more eggs than I ever planned but such is life and chicken math. :)
My incubator is holding at a perfect 99 degrees and the thermostat has held that round the clock so far. My humidity is...
in my recently made DIY Styrofoam incubator and I'm looking for advice.
My temps are staying at a solid 99 on 1 thermometer and 1 hygrometer. The hygrometer doesn't use decimals but it has not fluctuated from 99 all day since I tweaked the thermostat. However, my Brinsea w/ a probe in a water...
Hi everyone,
I have some shipped and local eggs coming in a few weeks and I want to use
a carton for the shipped eggs at least.
My husband got me a washable carton from work that has plenty of ventilation.
2 questions: any reason not to use plastic and how would you lay the eggs? Straight...
I am building a cooler incubator and I'm wondering if you know of any reason not to put the water, light, and fan under the floor of the bator? It'd be nice to get all that out of the way of the chicks and I can't think of a reason not to but I've never seen one like that. The light is always...
I'm in the process of collecting pieces for my cooler incubator. I had a thought to use an old cookie cooking tray covered w the tacky foamy contact paper. I figured it'd be easier to clean than metal wire mesh. Not sure, we'll see.
Just wanted to pass that idea on. Still going to cover the...
Hi everyone! I am a closet lurker for almost a year but I am now free! Hard to say why I never joined, only a few people and my husband know that I'm starting with chickens and all think I'm equally nuts. By telling someone at work I heard about another coworker who has them so now I have 1 who...
