Hi! My Buff Brahma is 8 months old and has been squatting for three weeks. I know they might take longer than other breeds to lay, but is it normal for her to be squatting so long without an egg? Thanks!
I have three 8 month old hens. One started laying at 5 months is an Olive Egger and still laying, one is a Buff Brahma, squatting and looks like getting ready to lay, the other is a white Easter Egger and no sign of laying. They aren't molting, either and it's early December. Should I be...
I have three chickens all around 5 1/2 months old. My F2 Olive Egger has already laid 24 eggs, once 8 in a row and once 7 in a row. They are smallish eggs, but have yolks and are edible. Is this normal? Should I be concerned? Or just be happy? She's very healthy.
This is my 8 year old hen, Delphine. She has no signs of illness except a small cough and this lump. It’s not warm to the touch. Not sure what to do. Suggestions or ideas? Thanks!
I have 4 chickens. Two are practically inseparable. One is a BCM and the other an EE. They sleep together, bathe together and generally just hang out. They get along really well as do all four of them. But the BCM likes to "groom" the EE. It's usually if she has food or sand in her beard...
I got my first BO about a year ago along with a BCM and EE. Phoebe, my BO was the first to lay. But she's the smallest of the group. She's not a bantam, but boy is she small for an Orpington. I expected a big girl. My BCM is the big one, and Phoebe is the smallest.
She's adorable with a...
I'm new to the BCM. Mine is a little over a year. Her first eggs were last year toward the end of the season. She had some eggs that were a beautiful dark brown and others that had dark spots all over the shell. Today was her first one and again, lots of dark spots all over. Plus the color...
My 3 month old chicks are shedding little tiny fluffy feathers. Not alot, just some. I've also seen about 5 regular feathers, too. I know about molting, but it isn't the right time of year and they're only 3 months old. Is this typical when growing up? This really seems like a silly...
Just treated my 3 13 week old girls with corid for coccidia followed by 2 days of nutra-drench. Any and all blood cleared up except for one. Fecal float shows no cocci or worms. Vet suggested 5 more days of corid and we're on day three. She's strictly an avian vet.
Problem is one of them...
Could my chicks be shedding intestinal lining after a 7 day corid treatment? Only a couple of poos look a little like hamburger but the rest look normal. If it's blood, what do I do?
Other than the early morning slightly red poo they seem fine.
I can't find anything like this on other...
My 3 ten week old chickens are on day 6 of Corid. There is still some blood in the poo. Not bright red, but it's there. Should I be concerned? I thought it would clear up by now. I'm going to keep them on for 7 days, but is this normal to still have some blood? I'm starting to get worried...
I have three new 11 week old chickens. One got coccidia and of course, the others followed. They've been on Corid for 3 days now. Yesterday the poo looked lots better. Only one had some "hamburger" blood. This morning there was more of it. Looks like two, if not all three still have the...
I have a 4 year old Barred Rock that is acting totally normal. Her energy is the same, she jumps on her perches, and runs over to me but she's not eating. No nasal discharge or symptoms of any other illness except not eating. She didn't start to lay this Spring and isn't currently laying...
I had 3 hens. Two picked on the 3rd till I had to remove her. She has her own run, but the other two were next to each other so they could see each other, but not live together. Sort of like side by side runs. The one who did the most pecking has died. Now I have 2 hens. Each have their...
My husband and I have covered every inch of our WIR, sealed up even the tiniest cracks and still I find rat dropping in the morning. (I do take the food in at night, but there's always a pellet or two on the ground. I have no idea where they're coming from. Can the possibly fit through the...
I have three girls who've been raised together since they were 13 weeks. They have an established pecking order. They have about 100 sq ft with roosts and a pecking block.
The lowest in the pecking order gets her feathers pecked occassionaly. She sits there and lets them do it. Over time...
What is wrong with her feathers? She's not molting. There are no pin feathers and it's the wrong time of year. It's all her downy feathers. No lice or mites, either. Any ideas???
Six weeks ago I found lice on all three of my girls and treated them with Sevin Dust. Two days later they were gone, but treated them again in 7 more days. I also cleaned everything out and treated the run. Haven't seen any since.
My oldest, who is almost 11 months had lost alot of feathers...
I've read the Wyandottes are generally slow to develop. Mine is 7 1/2 months and only 4 lb. She's at the bottom of the pecking order, but eats and certainly runs around! She doesn't act sick, is quieter than the others so am just wondering about her weight. Perhaps I'm just concerned because...
My GLW is 22 weeks and 3 days old and hasn't laid her first egg yet. This morning she started singing the egg song...loud and clear!!! But she's never done the squat. This morning while she was "singing" I went over and picked her up. Now that NEVER happens with her. No squating, but no...
