    I just rescued 2 chicks....

from my Farm King. It's that glorious thing called 'chick days'. They had one all alone in one room, that looked like it had a few minutes to live, and another in a room of probably, 50 day-olds, lying on it's back being chewed on. I got the girl and asked her to put the two of them alone...

    **update on broken-heart**

To all that sent kind words of encouragement; I am currently licking my wounds and trying to put the pieces back together. So, for now my flock, and I are staying where we are. I don't know what tomorrow will bring, but I'm trying to keep it all together. Thankyou so much for the good wishes and...

On top of my broken heart

I will have to place my chickens. The man I thought loved me, says he doesn't anymore[after 6 1/2 yrs.] and wants me to move out. Like I said in my reply to Bantymum, I'm not just broken but stunned. I live in his home in the country and will have to move to the city where my family is, he likes...

    Gnat attack!!

Is anyone else having a terribled time with gnats. I think these are Buffalo gnats and they are relentless. My chickens won't come out of their coop. They try and within 30 seconds they run back in. Any ideas on when it may end? We live in West Central Ill.

Looking for the best way to euthanize

I have a 1 yr.old Cochin Roo, that is upsetting all things human and chicken. He's not a gentleman, in any sense of the word. I have finally come to terms with the fact that he needs to go. I'm more concerned with what would happen to him if I rehomed him, than I am with the thought of him...

New idea in nest box material???-

I have finally come up with something to do with my dryer lint. This might sound backwoods, but I've started to line our nest boxes with it. It made sense to me, it's clean, soft, warm and totally disposable. I've been watching them closely, to make sure no one was interested in eating it, and...

    Organic eggs??

What defines an organic egg? Can my eggs be called "organic" even if the hens are fed a prepared laying feed? I get the feed from a grain mill co-op, they prepare themselves right there. There aren't any meds added, but don't want to declare them something they're not. I'm getting ready to...

    who has the awesome coop

I think it was in the last 2-3 days, I saw someones' pictures of their coop in progress and then the finished pictures. I'm trying to find the post to show the DH. It was very nice with a roof that was swayed purposely and looked to have wooden shingles. It was what I think to be white vinyl...
