She just wants to hatch some eggs

Barbecue is broody again. We got our chickens last spring and after she started laying eggs about 2 weeks later she went broody, and she’s at it again. I keep telling her we do not have a rooster so her eggs and the other gals will not turn into babies. She will not believe me. I’m hoping...

    I’m spoiled

My husband made me a cabinet next to my coop just for chicken stuff. Unfortunately I choose a perfect height that my 7 year old and his head are about the same. Poor kid hit his head on the corner of it Maybe I should have my hubby put bumpers on the corner :)

    Molting or getting picked on?

when do chickens normally start molting? I’m thinking not in the middle of winter correct. Chicky has lost her tail feathers and some on her head and back of her neck. We have 4 chickens in a 4x4 coop attached to a 10x4 run that they always have access to. Then they free range in the back...

    They don’t like snow :)

As we got closer to winter I suggested to my husband that we should cover the lower half of the run to keep snow out. His reply oh we won’t need that snow won’t get in. I asked what about the snow that normaly collected in that spot before the coop, he just brushed it aside. So I said ok knowing...

    They are messing with me

so we have 3/4 laying but looking at the color of eggs I’m getting you would think we have 4. Goldie lays the lighter brown eggs and Blacky the darker ones so why do I have 3 different shades of darker brown eggs. Is it normal for the color to change so much? Today I went to let the girls...

    Who would have thought

We have a pine tree that has a wire sticking out of it. I'm thinking when it was planted it was staked down and the wire never removed so it grew around the wire. I have had good intentions to cut the wire so we don't get snagged on it but that never happened turns out it has become very...
