Our EE laid her first egg Sept. 11 at the age of 22 weeks. About 2 days later she was not feeling well. She acted very lothargic and just wanted to be by herself. She was fine the next day and has been ever since. I thought she may have picked up something that did not agree with her but she...
I have 2 Rhode Island Reds...1 is going on 3 years old and the other is going on 1 year. They have layed fine up until about 2 weeks ago, now I am getting (what looks like an embryo) in the nesting box. I also have 2 White Leghorns that are laying fine. I haven't had an egg from the RIR's...
I currently have 2 girls (1 Rhode Island Red and 1 White Leghorn) They are 1 year old....I am picking up 2 White Leghorns tomorrow...that are about the same age. What is the best way to introduce the NEW girls to the girls I've had since day-olds. I let them free-range during the day and at...
I have 4 Girls...will be a year old in April. 2 RIR and 2 White Leghorns. Would like to get 2 chicks in April. What is the best way to introduce the new kids to the Girls?
I have a white leghorn that went broody about 4 months ago. I let her just go through it without putting her in solitary confinement. I would take her out of the nest and let her out with the other girls (2 RIR and another white leghorn). She finally seemed to come around and started laying...
I plan on putting bales of straw around my girls house. I think that should help insulate against the cold. I'm more worried about keeping their water from freezing. Any ideas out there? Do those heated pet bowls work?
I've read posts about girls singing the laying song...My girls have just now started laying and after 3 eggs, can't say that I have heard them sing.
UNTIL yesterday morning, when I heard what sounded like (for those of you that might remember) JANIS JOPLIN on steroids in high-def!
WOW!!
Oh, the...
We got our first egg on Wednesday, Aug. 19...I Should say our first and ONLY egg. Is this natural? We have 2 White leghorns and 2 RIR. It was one of the leghorns that layed an egg on Wed. They are all about 19 weeks old. Is it common for them to take some time after the 1st egg?
Our first egg...we're soooo proud! AND excited!!
Our one White-Leghorn seemed to be acting strange yesterday. Not really hanging around with the other girls. She was on her own agenda. I had a feeling she was getting ready to lay just the way she was acting. We were laughing at her yesterday...
Still can't figure out if I have a rooster or not. These are my 2 RIR. They are about 18 weeks old. Haven't heard a crow yet.

Was wondering what kind of treats you feed. So far I have given my girls grapes (they LOVE them), watermelon, cantaloupe, blueberries and sweet corn (they clean the corn right off the cobb) Saw a post once that they like bread, but mine don't seem to care for it. Any other suggestions of what...
HI...this is my first year with my girls...2 Rhode Island Reds and 2 White Leghorns. They are about 3-1/2 months old now.
I don't have their nesting boxes in their house yet...when is a good time to put them in there? Don't want to put any pressure on them!
I plan to use 2 old wooden boxes...
