Buff Orpington - Please say it's a hen.

This chicken came from McMurry and was hatched on April 4th. The comb is bigger than the other two I got at the same time. Do you think this is a hen or a rooster? It has a broken toe and a deep voice. A deep manly voice - but........ I hope it is a sweet little hen with an alto voice.

Can you tell me what breed this little rooster is? (pretty sure it's a roo) He came from McMurry as the free "rare breed" chick and is 3 month's old. Thanks

    Help! I don't know what I am.

I'm the extra rare chick from McMurry. I have been looking in their catalog trying to decide what kind of bird I am. Can you help me? They put magic marker on my head so please disregard the pink color.

    Feeding deer meat scraps

My DH has killed a deer. He quartered it and boned out some of it. The chickens went crazy over the meat still attached to the bones. Is it good for them to let them enjoy this? I saved a few bags of the scraps in the freezer to feed them along on days when I don't have extras for them.

Do molting chickens sit on the nest?

I have two hens who stopped laying a couple of months ago. They both have continued to go through the motions of laying. They sit in the nest boxes every day and sometimes even sing the egg song. They get off the nest and free range with the 8 young pullets. I'm guessing they are molting...

    Miracle- Hello! guinea/chicken crossbreed

I named this guy Miracle because I said if any of these eggs hatch it will be a miracle. This is our first attempt at raising chickens and guineas. My guinea, Dutchess, laid a nice clutch of eggs and started setting. This was her first time and she picked a nice spot inside the barn in the hay...

    Funny purring rooster

I have an 18 week old EE rooster named Warlock. He is "second fiddle" around here. Second in comand to Boss, the RIR, senior rooster. Boss wants all 10 hens for himself and poor Warlock has to be really sneaky. He will spy a hen off by herself without Boss around and race to her for a...

    Exciting "odd" egg

Hi all, Yesterday was an exciting day. I got what I thought was my first fart egg. But..... My 8 sex links began laying on Aug. 1st. (not all of them at once, of course) As the month progressed we worked up from 1 to 7 eggs a day but yesterday I got one of those tiny eggs I have been...
