I've been selling Indian runner hatching eggs locally for $10/dozen. They are selling like hot cakes. Am I pricing them too low? What pricing is common? I live in Iowa.
I'm hatching my first duck eggs in about 16 yrs. My first hatch is 10 indian runner duck eggs (to get back in the swing of things). Eggs were overheated briefly to 118F a week ago when temp control jammed although obviously eggs didn't reach that temp internally and I was quick to fix issue...
My duck eggs are on day of incubation (28 days is hatch day). One egg has been moving and rolling around off and on for almost 2 days. My Siamese cat China spends all of her time on the counter next to the bator watching the eggs through the viewing window.
So, has anyone else's cat done...
This is my first time hatching since I was a kid. I have 10 viable eggs out of 10 eggs put in bator (yeah, I know no culls is weird). They are duck eggs on day 24. Last night I heard some noise (pecking and a faint peep?) and cat was watching the bator intently. So I took the eggs off the...
I've got several different colors of runners and am amazed that one of my ducks is laying black eggs. In this photo it doesn't look really black but in real life it's really, really black- especially the pointy end.
So what color of runner lays black eggs? I have hens in the following...
My new hovabactor incubator with forced air fan and egg turner arrived Saturday. It was quickly put at temp and held nicely for 12 hrs. I loaded it with 10 runner eggs. . and am waiting to meet my new quackers. . . Humidity keeps holding around 48-50% so I may need to add a bit more water...
My ducks have me a bit annoyed. One day I found 2 eggs instead of the regular one. So I figured the 9 hens were starting to think eggs. . . so I ordered a 48 egg hovabactor forced air incubator with autoturner. Now I'm back to one egg a day and the shells seem thini- most likely due to the...
I plan to start incubating runner eggs as soon as the darn gals lay a bit more reliably. Come on ladies, get it together! Anyone else hatching runners out? I bet there is lots of info to share that is unique to runners and adorable photos! For example, ducks usually have an incubation time...
I have seven 7 mo. old runner hens and one 3 yr (?) old Pekin. One duck is definitely laying eggs. How do I tell which breed of duck it's from? The eggs are about the size of large chicken eggs and are grey/white. Is there a big size difference between breeds? I know both runners and Pekins...
I haven't had ducks since I was a kid and although I remember the big important things there are a few things I just don't remember. Do you see any signs before your ducks start laying eggs? My hens haven't started yet and I'm wondering what signs I'll see to indicate they are close to...
Anyone live in Iowa? I have a few questions and would love to know some people around here. Questions:
1. What month do your ducks start laying typically? Are any laying now?
2. How do your ducks deal with Iowa weather? Any tips?
3. Any of you have runner ducks?
Thanks!
I have Indian runner ducks for training stockdogs. My friend had a flock used for the same purpose however her entire flock was killed (I was told raccoons) except for 1 Pekin duck aptly named Mrs. Pekin. Mrs. Pekin's 5 ducklings along with many other ducks died right in front of her. After...
