I discovered this damaged egg in a sitting hens nest. It was 4 days till hatch day. The membrane was not damaged and no liquid leaking, but as you can see from picture the shell is very damaged. It is a wheaten Maran egg, I tried candling for movement, but cannot make out anything other than air...
We hatched 7 chicks on Halloween. This is the only chick who’s gender has not been determined. Has no raised comb or visible wattles. No tail feathers yet, dainty legs. It does have the rust coloring on chest and shoulders which screams cockerel to me. I’d love to hear what you think.
what should I expect from a blue copper maran hen crossed to wheaten maran rooster? If anyone has any of this cross I’d love to see pictures. My sitting maran just hatched some and I have no idea what to expect! Thank you so much!
I have ended up with 4 roosters in my flock of 12 and as they are approaching 7 months old, things are starting to get hostile. I have a olive egger rooster and a EE rooster who are free. Located in Rogersville, Tn.
This is the last of my 12 Spring chicks that I am still not 100% sure of gender. This bird has had very big wattles for weeks. The comb is still much lighter than the wattles, but has grown some. 12 weeks tomorrow. I’ve been holding out that maybe “she” just developed wattles early, lol. With...
10 weeks old, EE . are the feathers I have circled the saddle feathers? I’ve know this guy was a cockerel since about 4 weeks due to very rlast d comb, but I want to be able to identify saddle feathers when making guesses about the rest of my unknowns. Thank you!
This 5 week old Orpington has some giant red wattles! I know nothing about Orpingtons, so I thought I come here to ask. Is this a for sure cockerel or do orpington pullets ever get wattles this size at 5 weeks? Thank you all!
Hey everyone! I bought 2 day old wheaten maran chicks 3 weeks ago from a local breeder. These are the 2 chicks now. The one with brown I believe is a wheaten maran, but what is going on the the solid white one? She is not following any of the color patterns from wheaten marans that I have found...
Until today, I have been certain this olive egger was a pullet. The other olive egger I bought with her, is obviously a rooster and it has been obvious for about 3 weeks. She is 6 weeks old today and her comb has suddenly turned bright pink. Have I been wrong all along and this is a rooster? I...
I left this morning for a few hours and came home to find my wheaten maran chick with a bloody behind and 2 raw spots on shoulders. The blood is not in stool, as I was just holding her when she pooped and there was no blood. Is another chick pecking her to do this? What do I need to do? Thank...
This is a 5 week old EE from co-op. Would love to hear your thoughts on the sex. It has burnt orange feathers coming in and I’ve read that brighter colors means rooster, but I’m so new to this I’d love to hear what those more experienced think. Thank you!
Hello. I just spent my morning cleaning out this space to use as a chicken coop. My plan is to lay new flooring and run mesh wire from roof to floor over the cracks between boards and around soace between walls and ceiling. What else do i need to do to make it safe? Also, any tips on roosts...
Hoping to find some one familar with wheaten marans who could answer a question for me. I have read that you can sex this breed by their wing feathers. Is this true? I have these two chicks that are nearly 2 weeks and from what I’ve read, the dark wings is a rooster and the light is a pullet. Is...
Can you help me figure out what kind of chicken this is? I bought from a bin at my local co-op. The chicks had been consolidated into a bin with multiple breeds and the lady who helped me could not tell what it was. Of course, this is the chick my daughter just had to have. The list of...
Total newbie here hoping to determine this 5 week old olive eggers gender. I’m thinking roo, as that comb is awfully pink, but I want to hear what others who actually know what they are talking about think. I can’t keep roosters and of course this sweetie is my favorite and I’m so attached
