Does anyone know if this is a hen or rooster? He/she is 7 weeks old. We did order all day-old pullets, but I’m beginning to think that this one may be a rooster.
Please let me know what you guys think!
Thanks :)
We have had these twice on our chickens. The first round killed a lot of our flock.
We dusted each chicken, treated for mites and lice. Bought two new coops and started over, we thought.
Unfortunately, two of our chickens died, which made us start checking the others this week.
Two of our...
Many of our chicks have hatched with half of their yolk unabsorbed. It has happened many times in the incubator. We thought it was because we didn't have the temperature/humidity right, but today a chick hatched under a broody hen, and a lot of the yolk was unabsorbed.
Does anyone know what...
I was wondering if there is such thing as overbreeding chickens? We have had healthy chicks until now.
A lot of them are born with unabsorbed yolks, and some are too weak to move.
We have been breeding all spring and a lot of the summer.
We have 16 hens. Is that enough? Or are we breeding the...
I'm not sure why, but this one chick won't move its leg, it just keeps it up. It is hopping on one foot. It seems healthy, but the one leg just doesn't seem to want to move. It just keeps it up all the time.
It eats and drinks, and actually gets around pretty good. I just want to see if...
We started breeding our chickens last year, and have had pretty good success.... Except for the last few chicks that have hatched. (We stopped for a few months, and are starting to breed again)
All these chicks are very weak, and won't lift their head. Our chicks are usually very strong. A...
I have a Welsh Harlequin duck, and she has this weird infection in her foot. This strange, hard, white stuff came out of her foot, and now it's an open wound sort of thing. It's really strange. Does anyone know what it could be?
It looked like it was bumble foot a week ago and we were treating...
I was wondering the fewest amount of ducklings we can ship. We have Standard and Call ducks.
I've heard it has to be at least 4 Standard and 10 Calls.
Is that right?
We have two five week old ducklings. I heard that you have to ship a duck/chick when they're 12hours to 3 days because they're still absorbing the yolk. When they're 2-3 days they start really drinking. I've heard Anywhere from 2 days to 8weeks they need food and water constantly.
Is this true...
Our call duck mom hatched 10 baby ducklings, and left the last one behind. The one she left behind was hatching, and I couldn't just leave it in the nest, so I decided to put it in the incubator to hatch. I was going to give it back after it got fluffy and could walk.
But It took a long time to...
We have a broody hen, and she has two chicks. We have her and the chicks seperated in a little pen in the big coop area(so the hens won't hurt the babies, but they can still see each other). I was wondering when we let them back in the flock. The chicks are going on 3 weeks.
We've noticed yesterday that one of our call duckling's foot is swollen. We thought it could be bumblefoot, but it doesn't exactly look like it.
It did get out of the pen, through a little hole, and That was about two days ago so it could have injured itself by doing that.
Does anyone know what...
We had about 45-50 duck eggs so far this year. We only got 5 ducklings, which seems pretty weird considering all the duck eggs we got. They were from our ducks so it wasn't from the eggs being shipped or anything. We waited 14 days after the eggs were supposed to hatch but then when we looked at...
We have a 8wk old chick, and I'm still not sure if it's a pullet or cockerel yet. The one on the left is definitely a cockerel but I'm not sure about the one on the right.
I think I'm leaning towards pullet since it isn't near as red as the other one.
What are your thoughts?
Thanks!
