I have some goose eggs that no one remembers exactly when they went in the incubator. Candling does not help us determine much of anything. Can I do the float/wiggle test of they are close to hatch but not necessarily overdue? Thanks
Hello!
I was given two quail- it looks like a male scaled quail and a female snowflake. I have put them in a covered wire cage that is wider and longer than it is high and I'm trying to learn about these little ones. My first question- can the two different breeds be safely kept together?
Thanks...
Hi there,
my daughter set some of her banty eggs and I didn't double check the thermometer until Monday (when the eggs were due to hatch and there was no action). Unfortunately she was reading the wrong line and instead of being at 99, the temp was holding steady at 90. Is there any chance the...
Ideas of what would pick a guinea off a barn rafter and leave a pile of feathers and the wings and beak behind?
Thanks for any insight.
Incidentally, the birds have safely roosted in the barn for almost 3 years!
My husband spent way too much money and surprised me with some ayam cemani hatching eggs he bought off eBay. 9 out of 12 hatched today and I don't think they are cemani at all. Can anyone help me out?
Thank you so much for any insight you can provide!
My 3 yr old welsh harlequin male is sick. He's off balance, falling down and his neck seems cramped or limp alternately. He's lethargic and I can't seem any apparent injury. I've never had a duck problem before- what should I look for? What does this sound like?
Thanks
Please help me narrow down what could be making my rooster sick! He's three years old and usually pretty spunky. He's been lethargic the last three days and tonight liquid came out of his beak when I picked him up (the liquid did NOT stink), his comb looks blueish and he's just obviously not...
We've got a two year old RIR who started twisting her head up about a week ago. We started her on Rooster Booster immediately and have seen some improvement. Her affliction gets worse when she's under stress from the flock- like when everyone is rushing the door to get out in the morning or when...
I have 3 yr old toulouse geese and I'm in SW Wisconsin. They are losing their feathers like crazy and I'm wondering if it's molt or if I have another problem. Thanks!
We have a pair of black runners and a pair of yellow harlequins, there's no way to tell who fertilized what egg. I'm curious if it's worth while to hatch some out- has anyone done it?
THanks
My toulouse goose has been on her nest for 30 days. I don't hear any sounds from the eggs and the nest stinks- should I assume it's a bust? She's three years old and has tried to hatch babies every year with no luck. Is a goose's nest usually stinky or is it just a sign that all the eggs have...
Our mama goose has been sitting on her nest for a while now- babies would be due around May 8th if they're going to hatch. Anyway, mama goose is sitting on her nest at a weird angle. Does anyone know why?
Thanks
I am worried about my roosters waddles dipping in their bowl in these minus temps. Their heads are too big to use one of the standard lip waterers. Anyone have any clever solutions? Thanks
Hi there! We've got 6 week old guinea keets that are currently "free ranging" in the basement... which they love, but isn't ideal for the rest of us. The basement temp is between 65 one 70, the birds haven't had a heat lamp for over a week and they are all feathered out. We'd like to start...
So I was candling the guinea eggs that have yet to hatch and came across one that had a massive air cell that went up the side of the egg as well. Since I have a feeling that we messed up the humidity, I assumed the air cell indicated a shrink wrapped chick so I pipped on the air cell end to...
So, we have what I assumed will be a kind of staggered hatch of guinea eggs. We ended up with two hens on one nest and we had to take the eggs, so we put them in the incubator and hoped for the best. When I candled at about a week in to incubation, some looked spidery and well on their way to...
