Ducking neuro problems, seizures, not eating.

One of my buff duckings (5 weeks old) is acting very strangely. Seizures, neck twisting, walking in circles and not interested at all in following the others. I would say she’s acting blind. She also stands still and looks upwards for hours at a time. I have not seen her sit down in the past...

    Producing mule ducks...

I'm interested in mule ducks and I was wondering how difficult it is to breed/hatch them. I have a muscovy drake and pekin, rouen, mallard, and buff females. If any of you have done this before, or have mule ducks, any info would be great. I plan on keeping the drake with the mallard derived...

    What breed are these ducklings?

4-5 weeks old. I was told they were snowy mallards but I’m having doubts now. On the smaller side, yellow down with faint eye stripes and pink bill/feet. Feathers just starting to come in. Flank feathers are buff, tail feathers are silvery buff. Photos.

    Muscovy molting patterns.

Recently my Muscovy drake picked a fight with the gander and ended up losing ALL of his primary feathers on the left wing and about half of them on the right wing. The ducks fly a lot around the property and I feel pretty bad for him now that he’s flightless. He can’t get on the roost either. It...

How to stop drake from attacking his reflection?

This is the second day in a row that my Muscovy Drake has been constantly attacking his reflection in the window. I have covered half of the window in cardboard and he has stopped for the moment, but obviously that’s not a permanent solution to him non stop battering the glass with his wings and...

    Early signs of angel wing.

I have a 3 week old gosling that I think may be developing angel wing. Her left wing is ever so slightly pointed away from her body. Is there any way to spot it before the wing feathers come in? Thanks.

    Is this bad?

One of my Toulouse goslings has this on the bottom of each of its feet. The skin is cracked and has this brown stuff in it, is this normal? I’ve never had geese before so I don’t know.

    Toulouse or African gosling?

Just picked up this sweet girl this morning! She was hatchery choice so I’m not 100% sure on the breed but I’ve pretty much narrowed it down to Toulouse or brown African. I’m thinking Toulouse based on the bill, what do you guys think?

    PHISHING POP UP?

Earlier today I was browsing BYC on my iPhone and in the middle of reading a thread I was redirected to a generic (obviously scam) “giveaway” page. When I returned to the site I was logged out and every time I try to log in again, I get redirected to the same page! My computer is doing the EXACT...

    Hybrid comb?

I recently got 4 silkie x polish crosses and one of them has a very strange comb. Two of the four have duplex walnut combs, one has a normal walnut comb, and the other one has the weird one. It has the two spikes of a v comb on the front, and a normal walnut comb on the back. V comb is always...

Why did Ideal stop selling moderns?

I’ve always ordered my modern game bantams from Ideal Hatchery, but I just realized that they’ve stopped selling them. Why would they have done this?

    Show off your mixed breeds!

Three weeks ago I hatched out 8 mixed breed chicks and I’m so excited to see how they turn out! I’m just curious to see other people’s mixed birds. My babies are: 6 silver laced polish x black silkie 1 light Brahma x frizzle black copper marans 1 salmon faverolles x frizzle black copper marans

Chick attacked by cat. Spinal injury???

This morning my silkie hen and her 8 three week old silkie chicks were (supervised) free ranging in the yard when a feral cat came and snatched up one of the chicks and wounded another badly. Sadly the first chick died, but the second survived with a large puncture wound on it’s back. It wasn’t...

Was this just a coincidence or is it genetics?

I recently got a frizzle Cochin rooster and I bred him to my smooth Cochin hen in the hopes to get more frizzles. I hatched 12 of their eggs and the chicks are now 2 weeks old, and they are ALL smooth feathered?? I understand the frizzle gene affects roughly 50% of the offspring when bred to a...

Hen still turning eggs on day 20? Is this ok for the chicks?

My chicks are sceduled to hatch tomorrow! One is already pipping. The problem is the broody is still turning them and moving them around underneath her. Is this ok for the chicks? I know in an incubator you stop turning them on day 18 so does the same apply with a hen?

Feral pigeon with feathered legs and feet?

I’ve been seeing this guy for about a year at the local park. He looks just like a normal feral pigeon but he has feathered legs and feet. Is he an escaped domestic or is this a naturally occurring mutation? If so, does it just pop up in clean legged populations or do the parents have to carry a...

Help! How long can eggs survive without being warm?

This is completely my bad for being so ignorant, and I’m worried. Last night I took four 14 day old eggs from my broody to candle them.. and I forgot to put them back under her... D: I don’t know how it happened but they sat outside the nest for a little over 12 hours. The weather wasn’t...

Hen’s feathers not growing back after five months?

In late December, my salmon faverolles hen was attacked by a ringtail while I was in the yard. I chased it away and she was unhurt besides two fistfuls of feathers torn out of her back. It’s now late April and there is still no sign of feather regrowth, just two patches of bare skin on her back...

    Is this a sizzle rooster?

This is Daio, he’s eight months old. I still haven’t found out what his parents were, but I assume one was a silkie because of the dark skin. He’s a frizzle with dark skin, four toes and clean legs. He has no crest and his comb is a mix of single and pea, and it flops to the side. He’s in...
