    my first bantam

At Tractor Supply yeterday, looking at all their chicks and one stood out. A banty baby that is a grey/blue color, with full fuzzy legs. It was the only one like that, but what kind is it? Of course the TSC employees had no idea. I tried to get a picture up as well, but mine are to big to load...

I washed my jeep this morning to wash away all the pollen. It had so much pollen on it it had gotten to where I about couldn't see out the windshield. Washed, dried with a towel and its copper color shined like a new penny. An hour later, and wham! A haze of yellow again! already! All that hard...

This morning while I was cracking eggs into a bowl for french toast, two of the eggs yolks were so runny they almost looked like they had already been beat in the bowl. Why did they do that? Is it diatary maybe? the other eggs I cracked were fine.

    Is it a roo?

We have two New Hampshires, about 41/2 weeks old that we hatched from our own eggs. They both are getting combs, but one's comb looks to be slightly bigger and it is starting to develop wattles where the the other is not. Could this one be a roo? Do they tend to develop parts quicker?

We have our third of three chicks hatched in our incubator, but our brooder is full of little "meaty" chicks at the moment. We still have the box the meaties were shipped in. Soooo.... I was thinking, would it be OK to put the new hatches in that box? We don't have another heat lamp(although my...

    broiler question

We have 50 broiler chicks orderd, and reading about their feeding advice in the Meyer Hatchery catalog, they suggest awithdrawal for the last 3 weeks until butcher. What exactly does that mean? No feed for three weeks?

We have fifty broiler chicks orderd, due to arrive Friday. I was just reading in the Meyer Hatchery catalog about their feeding and care recomendations. (If you have the new catalog, look on pg.26). It says Broiler withdrawal from 3 weeks until butcher. What does that mean? No food for the last...

    piping? Peeping?

OK, so I'm new to the whole hatching thing and have seven eggs incubating right now. They SHOULD hatch the 11th, if all goes well. Here is my "newbie" question. What is piping, and what is peeping?

    cleaning eggs before incubating?

After all the rain we have had here in Alabama, the eggs are really dirty when we get them out of the nesting boxes. The ones I put in the fridge to eat I clean them at the kitchen sink, under plain water. But my question is, for the ones we want to incubate is it OK to clean them with warm...
