I noticed a while back that one of the duckling's somehow injured its foot and now there's a hole in it.
It's healed completely and it doesn't seem to bother the duckling, but will it bother the duck later on? Will it get smaller eventually? I guess it should, not the size itself but the foot...
Yesterday he was energetic and ran around just fine, this morning it's hardly moving and it looks like one of its legs isn't OK. The other duckling is trying to make him walk by nibbling on his (injured?) leg.
What can I do to help?
My duck is making unusual sounds. Beside regular quacking, she started doing this squeeking quack and loud high pitched yell.
She sometimes makes strange coughing sounds even though she is healthy. Anyone knows what that could be? Could she be imitating dog barking or some other sound? She's in...
I have a broody duck that started a nest inside a large pampas grass. She is protective and hardly leaves it during the day, but when the time comes to go into their house, she is the first to go in. I tried leaving her outside in her nest and closed the others a bit earlier, but she sion...
Last winter, we've had a lot of snow and this year, it's spring like - yet, my ducks are not laying eggs. Previous winter, they started laying in early to mid February. I don't now what they are waiting for.
I've been thinking, is there anything else besides sun exposure and possibly food...
Duck I incubated this spring doesn't eat as much as she would need to. Each time I check on them, she has empty crop and only eats grass and greens outside. She does eat grains, corn or feed, but only a few bites, then she start grazing grass around while other 3 ducks ferociously attack...
Here's a thing...
I have 3 ducklings now, 1 week and over old. They have unimaginable appetite and will eat everything, rotting dry grass outside, wood shavings, leaf particles, ... anything they find which seems chewy enough for them actually. They have huge crops and I'm not sure if that's...
Here's the thing. Yesterday a duckling hatched that was having issues standing and walking. As it was completely exhausted, I kept it warm and allowed it to rest.
This morning, it's full of energy and I've seen that one of his leg is lame. His foot is curled beneath it's belly and he hardly...
Here's a short duck story..
I have 3 indian runner hens and they started laying eggs in early February. I have been collecting the eggs since the beginning and somewhere around mid March I noticed blood on one egg. Sometimes there was little blood, sometimes it was almost completely covered in...
Here's a question, I'm asking myself, and you, poultry gurus out there.
People with spiders, reptiles, exotic birds, fish,... etc, etc, often feed roaches to their animals. Dubia roaches have extremely good nutritional value.
65.6 (%) moisture
23.4 (%) Protein
7.2 (%) Fat...
Sister is making kefir and has a lot of kefir grains which she tosses away each day. Since it's just a bunch of beneficial organisms, yeasts and lactobacilii, they shoud be OK to be fed to ducks.
Anyone tried it already? Residue of the milk that might be attached to the kefir is completely...
Here's the thing, I have 3 Indian runner ducks which are not supposed to fly - at all. During their 7 months or so, they had shown extreme desire to fly and on several occasions, I have noticed they can lift off and fly 3 meters above ground, possibly higher. Longest distance so far was today...
Many of you know about my ducks, my lost drakes, about my dogs and how I trained the puppy to have friendly intentions with the drake I've incubated at the time he was like 1 month old. If not, quick recap.
I have incubated an egg around the time my dog had a puppy. We decided to keep him...
I've lost 2 drakes in less than a week. First one that went missing was the one that I hatched. He was fierce, brave and took great care of his flock. He was the one that followed me and answered my calls, using him, I could get the flock wherever I wanted to. On a snowy night, ducks remained...
I have free roaming gang of 5 ducks. I was feeding them duck feed, but then, I stopped completely, because they only nibbled a few times and then my dogs ate it. For some reason, dogs love the stuff - even whole corn kernels and grain!
Well, after I stopped giving them their duck feed, they...
I was wondering, do you close your ducks into a duck house during the rain or do you let them stay outside? I am having trouble getting them inside, because they enjoy the rain a lot. For now, I'll let them roam around in the rain and get them inside at night if they don't go themselves. They...
I was wondering what kind of mating rituals they have. I have a drake that is getting his head colored up into green (a bit less than 14 weeks old), and I think he is starting to show some hormone induced activity.
I would love to know what kind of tricks your drakes (and ladies) do when...
Here's a question. I've been experimenting with different grains and poultry feeds and watched my 5 indian runner ducks (2 drakes and 3 hens) forage. What I learned is, that they won't eat slugs (or anything) if I feed them 20% protein poultry feed. Well, they do snap at bug from time to time...
I've been thinking about buying wheat middlings and using it as duck feed supplement. Since it's cheaper and has quite good nutritional value (does it?), it could be added into their regular feed. I have read that adding up to 25% of wheat middlings into duck feed works good for them. Anyone...
For some time now, my Indian runner drake has spots on his bill. Otherwise, he seems to be healthy.
He's inside the pond most of the time, digging plants and checking for mud around it. Are these spots sign of physical damage (roses with nasty thorns are growing next to the pond) or could be an...
