    GLW, Olive Eggers

Hello! So my 2 Golden Laced Wyandotte pullets are 22 weeks old and their combs and wattles are brightly red, no squatting yet. How old were yours when they began laying? Also, my 2 Olive Egger pullets are also 22 weeks old and same, scenario, red combs and wattles no squatting yet. How old...

    She’s an Olive Egger but…

So I have this pretty baby… I do know she’s an Olive Egger, but what two breeds do you think she is mixed with? She does have feathered legs/feet. Slate colored legs. Dark gray feathers except around neck. And it looks like probably a pea comb. She is about 8-9 weeks old. TIA!

ISO Crested Cream Legbars in TN or KY

Hey everyone! Been a long time since I’ve been on here… Life got busy and crazy for me… Anyway, I don’t want to buy from a hatchery, I want to avoid buying chicks through shipping… So I’m curious if anyone knows where I can find someone who regularly breeds and sales Crested Cream Legbar...

    Just curious of opinions

What do you think the odds are of a chicken surviving an impacted crop the size of a softball that is just as hard and turned sour with no other treatment except stool softener and occasional massage?

    Euthanasia

I have a hen with a blocked, sour, pendulous crop. I've been massaging it. Giving her monistat and stool softener. It hasn't fixed the issue and now she has stopped eating. I am looking to humanly euthanize her by internal decapitation but I'm so scared I will botch it. How hard is it to do?

    Impacted crop

Ugh... one of my hens has an impacted crop. When I felt her crop this morning it was hard like a baseball. I massaged it and it softened up a smidge. Feels like it is full of grit. Does olive oil really help it get moving?

    Oh no! Not another one!

Meet Poppy... She is a 16 month old Speckled Sussux and has decided to be extra salty.... She has gone broody! 2nd pic I took off a video where she was walking around fluffing her feathers and flapping her wings and cluck cluck clucking in broodiness frustration because I made her get off the...

    Broodiness Cycle

I have a hen that is CONSTANTLY going broody. I usually give her the 3 days in broody jail to break her. Well, for the first time I decided to let nature do it's thing and her broodiness break on it's own... My question is, how long does that generally take? T.I.A. :hugs

    Just out of curiosity...

I have 1 hen who CONSTANTLY is going broody... I've no desire, at the moment, to let her hatch a clutch... but after watching her behavior I am curious about something and wondering what you all do in a situation like this... I have 2 nest boxes. And she swaps the nests. One min she is sitting...

    Insulation Question

Two years ago, I built an 8 ft x 20 ft run. It is enclosed on 2 sides and has a tin roof. Well, something I did not think about was the radiant heat off that tin roof. There is no wood under it. So the only thing I can try to do is put insulating boards between the rafters. So my question is...

    Britetap Nipple Waterer Issue

So this is for those of you who have the Britetap nipple waterer. Does yours leak? I am having issues with 1 of my 2 nipples leaking. I'm not sure if it gets stuck or what but it will run 5 gallons of water out of it when it leaks. Have any of you had this issue, if so, how did you resolve it...

    Thank You, Ladies

My family's Easter tradition is eggs pickled in beet juice with onions. And since I have chickens, it is my job to make the pickled eggs. A big thank you, to my ladies!

Show me your no waste feeders

So, I spent a pretty penny to make a PVC feeder that I can cap off at night to keep the lil mice that live under my neighbor's shed from getting in the feed at night. Problem is, they throw the feed out of it. So like today, I have the feeder closed off until they eat all the feed up off the...

    First Saturday Lime

Question... Can you use First Saturday Lime in your coop if you are doing a true deep litter method? Or does it defeat the purpose of DLM by killing off the good bacteria? Thanks in advance! :love

For you Speckled Sussex owners, what is the latest age your ladies laid their first egg?

    Speckled Sussex behavior

So this isn't any kind of "problem" so to speak, just a behavior I have noticed the last few days in one of my SS pullets who will be a year old next month.... I know that sometimes a hen can crow, and usually it is older, more dominate hens that will do it... this gal, like I said isn't even a...

    Tricide Neo

I'm sure this has been covered many times, but I'm curious about exactly how you all treated bumblefoot using Tricide Neo. Right now Ive been trying to do non evasive treatments of soaking in warm Epsom salt baths, picking, vetricyn, neosporin, and wrapping. So now I am going to try Tricide...

    Is this safe?

So I am outside breaking down dead branches into smaller pieces to burn and use in my bird's dust bath. I noticed that the branches are covered in lichen moss/algae. I also know chickens will eat wood ash... So, is lichen safe if it is burned into ash along with the wood and the birds eat it?
