I have an Ameraucana that is almost 4 months old. Hen or Rooster, thoughts? My grandson hatched her and really wants me to keep her. If a roo, it will definitely need to go. I don’t need anymore testosterone.
I have 2 chicks hatching that have pipped on the side. These are the first 2 to pip of this hatch. Should I do anything? I have experience assisting a hatch if needed.
Fiskars, our 2 year old scissor beak Ameraucana, has an issue with her eye. I’m not aware of an injury or attack to her.
Here is a picture. I have her separated from the rest of the chickens. I will clean her up and try and see if I can see anything. For now, here is a closeup picture. I...
Hey All,
For those of you who have cabinet incubators, I ordered one. I have a couple smaller incubators and haven’t been overly happy with my hatches. I talked to the person I purchased eggs from to see what he uses. He said that he gets better hatch rates. I decided to take the plunge...
I set 18 ameraucana eggs and 4 silkie eggs, all from my own chickens in a nurture right 360 incubator. At my daughter’s house, we set 12 ameraucana eggs, again my own eggs another nurture right 360.
We kept the incubators at about 50% humidity the first 18 days and temp at 99.5*. At...
I purchased a hatch rite incubator and will be returning it to Amazon. I also purchased a Janeol 24 (Magic Fly) which is easier to maintain temp and humidity. I wanted 2 incubators and after realizing what makes things simpler looked again on Amazon. I found a
Harris Farms Nurture Right...
I want to purchase an incubator to hatch out some eggs. To begin with, I just want a smallish one with an automatic turner. I found one on amazon with good reviews but thought before I purchased it that I’d ask the eggsperts.
Two hens Co-hatched/raised 3 babies. I believe 2 are cockerels. Someone is crowing but I can’t ever catch them in the act. Thoughts??? The black one is a cross of our black star sex link hen and our deceased Easter Egger. The grey is a cross of one of our Ameracauna hen and our sapphire gem...
Last night, I was doing my rounds and found that one of the eggs under our broody hen had started to hatch. There was a small section of shell missing. We went to our meeting and when we came home, checked again. Things didn't seem to have progressed any. This morning I went out and they...
I have a hen who I tested to make sure she was truly broody. After a week or so, I finally put her on eggs in the nest box. I needed to move her to a crate inside the coop because she wasn't letting the other hens in the boxes. When she went out for potty breaks, other hens would get in there...
We bought 3 ducklings in the spring and I have luck with buying baby poultry. I tend to get more males than females. It’s bad luck that I have. I rehomed the male Rouen to someone who has a female. I also rehomed at the same time 3 roosters, 1 who was the dominate in the yard because he was...
At what age do Easter Eggers start laying? I found a blue/green egg this evening. The color looks a little darker greenish shade than the blues that I have been getting from my Ameracaunas. The Easter Eggers are 3months old.
Hey I have an Ameracauna rooster, John Snow, who I had treated a month or so ago with turmeric and cage rest because he was limping. After 48 hours or so, he seemed better and back outside he went. 2 days ago I noticed him limping, not terribly. Yesterday, more so and I called the vet. I...
