It's been a while since I've had any questions, but I have 2 now. We are getting ready to get into bitter negative degrees temps and we just went ahead and brought all our jumbo coturnix quail back into the house. Even though they have a hutch and a place to get out of the wind, I just felt that...

If you have seen me various times throughout the year you may remember that it has been my 1st year raising quail and I had them in a rather large 8×8 ground pen and they were as happy as could be. I even had hens laying on eggs and bringing more babies to life. Out of fear they would freeze on...
Meet 6. He is the 6th numbered egg and the only baby out of 12 to develope under a female of mine that went broody. We had to pull 6 and put him in our incubator with other eggs we bought because mama gave up after she got frightened by weed eating around the pen. Still 6 managed to make it and...
So it's been said time and time again that jumbo coturnix quail do NOT go broody. Yet I have 4 girls leg banded because at any given time at least 1 is seen laying on the eggs. They are VERY devoted. In the pics I'll attach you can see a couple of stray eggs that got knocked around as the other...
So my last post I talked about how I have one surviving baby from hatch of eggs that had gotten wet. This little guy is now 10 days old and he looks like he's not really grown at all. My 1st batch of jumbo coturnix quail you could see a big difference I think in 10 days. He is eating the same...
I had noticed from day 1 that more often than not I have at least 1 larger egg. I've had as many as 3 at a time and just doubled my price of what I was selling the normal eggs for. A few days ago we had our own batch we opened to cook and was surprised to find they were fertile seeing as how we...
I was advised to start this thread and seek answers. Today is day 18 of incubation for my jumbo coturnix quail, lock down was 3 days ago. We are using a homemade incubator. Just a styrofoam chest with a black light. Last incubation went ok I guess. It was my 1st and I had 39 eggs hatch of 100...

So I have a baby quail that was born at 1am this morning and I see a bubble at his/her butt. My husband thinks it's egg sack hanging on, I think it looks fleshy. Can someone tell me what this is? I didn't have this with my last batch of chicks, so this is new to me
I have read all kinds of things that quail supposedly can eat and like as opposed to just their feed. I am trying to find a little more balance for my quail. Right now their daily is their 24% protine feed plus a few hand full of dried mealworms to top them off. I tried celery, apples, and...
I have my males separated from the females because I don't want fertile eggs just yet. This is the ONLY male that looks like this. Are they picking on him for some reason, or are they trying to mate thinking he's a female? I read males can be kept together just fine when they were born and...
I have 16 female quails and 2 of them keep digging out in just 2 spots of the pen. They dig and lay, turn, dig, and lay. The 1 outside of the house takes swipes at any other quail who stands there too long. She took a good swipe at my ankle while I was putting their sandbox back after cleaning...

Today I went to my pen to scoop my quail's sandboxes as I do every day when I noticed one of my hens laying beside me breathing heavy. Assuming I was scaring her with my presence I wondered why she just wasn't moving away. I went to pet her head and as she then started to move away I saw obvious...
So I have read how to and successfully made a boot for my quail's curled toes. It hit me now that while I did that right and he's running around with no issue, no thread that I found ever covered how long to leave the boot on. Info on that would be really helpful. I couldn't even get the answer...
I know i have probably bugged you all to death with my millions of questions, but you guys help this 1st time girl better than any Google search. Out of 39 jumbo quail born so far, I have had issues with 3. 1 was too weak to stand and hardly moved as well as being super tiny. I cuddled her and...

28 Quail in and I see this foot. As you can see I have him on his own cause I don't know what it is, if he's ok to go with the rest, or will they attack him because of this deformity? Can someone tell me what it is and is he ok to go with the other chicks?
After now seeing I can properly incubate and bring quail to hatch I wanted to try my hand at the original quail I wanted. Chinese painted Quail. All my research leads me to breeders in Australia. Does anyone know where I could actually find breeders for eggs or chicks?
