what do you think of my Brahma/Astroloupe mixes? I love the coloring. I have 2 of these roosters and 4 roosters total, including the father of the other 3.
I finally had to give in and build a new coop. My old one(s) was starting to fall apart, plus I had 2 girls going broody in it so they needed a separate coop either way to raise the chicks. So lets get started.
Step 1: Build a base and start framing walls.
I decided to do an 8' x 12' x 8'...
I currently have 28 chickens, of which 9 are a year and a half, 10 are ~6 months old and the rest are chicks currently being raised by their broody mother. Since this spring, I have been getting highly reduced number of eggs. I would expect 5-6 per day from 9 older hens. At best im getting 4...
I had my first broody hen this spring. She hadnt been broody, but after I started hatching the incubator chicks, she jumped right into it... under the deck.
Sunday morning, 21 days after the first night out of the coop, and sure enough, 2 new beautiful chicks.
She is protected for now and...
My roo is a light brama and my hens are a mix of RIR, red sex link and BA. These birds are just over 9 weeks old right now. Could anyone assist in trying to sex them?
We have a broody hen who has set up a nest under my porch. We have 2 options as I see it. Seal up the porch from predators, or move her back to the coop. Any suggestions? I dont want her to get hurt, but I also am worried if we move her she will be broken of the broodiness.
After spending all of day 21 worrying that I may have had a 0% hatch rate (happened earlier this spring), day 22 brings new life! I am happy to say that I have 2 out so far and more are beginning to zip. 41 total eggs in the incubator, 39 chicken 2 turkey. So now we wait and see how many I get...
I recently discovered this very large clutch underneath the chickens new coop. I had declined production over the winter (which i expected), but it didnt really pick up again when it started having longer days. Eventually i found this. 70+ eggs all sitting under the coop from probably 3...
Hi all. First off. I just want to say how amazing of a community this is. Everyone's advise and support has made the care and eventual culling of my chicken much easier on me.
The issues started a few months back. I noticed a larger than normal crop on one of my BA chickens (age unknown, got...
I just wanted to share with everyone my current setup. I have 13 hens and 1 beautiful roo. I am in Central VA. I just completed a new coop (minus painting) that attaches to my old one for additional space for the girls. Most days they free range in the yard and are locked up at night...
Almost finished my new coop. First coop is 8'x5.25' and I currently have 14 chickens. 1 roo and 13 hens. They free range a couple of hours each day. Here is the new coop almost done and my beautiful Brahma roo. Front doors will fully open and half inch hardware cloth across the top. Let me know...
Here is my light Brahma Roo. HE is just under 9 months and getting big! almost triple the size of all my other chickens (mostly RIR and Red Sex Link). I just think he is so gorgeous! New coop Under construction in the background. Also video of him crowing at 6 months linked below.
Hello,
I have been dealing with a hen with an enlarged crop. She is on a diet of yogurt and crumbles and has been inside for about 2 weeks now. This morning i decided to add some oil into her feed to help things move along and all i had available at the time was avocado oil. i put approximately...
I have a BA who is approx 6 months old. Two days ago i noticed her crop was quite distended (approx. the size of a tennis ball). I isolated her the next morning and kept her off of food for approximately 24 hours. She had access to water with ACV, which she seemed to be drinking normally. That...
I limited free range my 1 RIR rooster and 8 hens. Out at dawn, in the coop at dusk. Today I came home from work and found 3 large piles of feathers and my Roo's body. I lost one hen and another is missing quite a few feathers. It was clearly a case of my roo giving his life for the hens (the...
I can't tell if this one is a pullet or a cockrel. My chickens are about 16weeks and all the same size. Is this Brown one in front a cockrel? I believe they are rhode island reds.
