I have never had to deal with an injury like this, especially not on a bird, I'm hoping that others can point me in the right direction into saving this poor bird! Found it in my yard, dying, and I didn't want the dogs to eat it. I suspect the hawk attacked several pigeons and injured this one...
I've had some suspicions about my BR chick.... think it might be a boy, but I certainly don't have a trained enough eye to be able to be certain. It could be too early to tell.
Day ~2 Picture taken Feb 16.
These were taken today March 5.
I just got 2 new chicks, less than a week old. One is a BR who is basically always asleep. The other is a RIR and the one I'm having trouble with. She screams until I pick her up and coddle her, she will try and fly out of the brooder to me, or crawl into my hand and up my arm. She is active...
This is my neighbor's hen, she is so sweet and quiet. I always wondered what she was because I think she's so kind, quiet, and pretty! Her ears are red, her legs are slate blue and she is HUGE. She doesn't lay anymore but when she did her eggs were blue. She has a light gold lacing only on her...
My chickens HATE being touched or grabbed, ever since they were babies, but they're oh so soft it felt so sad to leave those fluffy feathers alone. But suddenly yesterday my chicken squat when I came up to her and now I can pet her all I want! She's the cutest thing when she does it I feel like...
According to my city ordinance I am allowed only 3 hens. I have 2 4 month hens, and recently my neighbor's hens were killed by raccoons and they gave me their lone survivor, a 2 day old chick. My hens are not even laying yet and I'm afraid I have no idea how to handle this situation. Can I...
Hilariously, and adorably, my 6 week old chick likes to jump on people's head and just sit there. I'm assuming she thinks it's like a nest, since she's just a baby still I never thought about giving her a nesting box, but maybe I should? Does she want to practice nesting? She's a barred...
For maintenance purposes the city is turning off the power in my neighborhood for an entire day. It will be 103F on that day, and I'm afraid my chicks will be miserable or unable to stand the heat. They are about 4-6 weeks old, how can I keep them cool with no fans and ice melting in the heat?
My little chicks only want to eat their starter, which has too much corn and little nutrition. I tried making my own chick starter with granola and I ground it up to the same consistency of their starter. They took one bite and ignored it. They are getting their big girl feathers so I want them...
