Marge, our "Silkhorn," is a mother for the first time! (And this is the first time we let a broody hen do the work.)
The babies are supposed to hatch throughout the rest of this week a day apart, so far we have two lucky ones that are too cute! We have a Black Silkie and a Brahma/New Hampshire...
Heya! I have a quick question to ask. We have two broody mothers whom are expecting to hatch eggs within the next two weeks (and this is the very first time we let the broody's do the job since we traditionally use an incubator during chick season.) Once they hatch do the chicks needs another...
For the first time in 2 years my mother and I witnessed a hawk attack on our very own porch steps. My mother was in the kitchen when she heard a cry outside, went to go check on the girls to see what was going on and there it was...a huge gray hawk with it's claws hooked on one of our...
Here's is Midnight, our mystery bird. We've had her for ten years and still to this day we aren't sure what breed she is. We've had our guesses (crevoceur and a houdan mix?), but we don't believe we're even close to our guesses. Hopefully there are some bird experts out there that might be able...
One of our silkies has a bad foot infection. It's very scaly, hard, with white masses; she has trouble standing on one foot in particular. She did have a case of scaly leg mites before so we dusted the chickens and put Vaseline on her foot. We're not sure if it's another mites infection again...
Has anyone seen Inception yet?
I am a huge admirer of Chris Nolan's movies, and I have to say this one really blew me away. I saw it yesterday with one of my friends from school and we were like OMG.
Who wants to see some cute chicks?
Sorry if the images are blurry, they like to move around a lot and couldn't stand still when I was taking their pictures.

Our dear Snowball peacefully flew into the clouds this morning, although it is heartbreaking to loose such a wonderful Silkie who always gave us a good laugh. For the past two days he somehow fell ill, and we knew we might loose him. Snowball will be missed dearly by our family and friends who...
I noticed recently that one of our Plymouth Rocks (Zelda) is loosing feathers around her neck. At first I thought it was because she was probably going through a molting phaze, but I come to realize that none of the others are having the same problem. She is about a year old to date along with...
Two of our Silkies are recovering after a bad case of Scaly Leg Mites. Today my brother and I are thinking of giving them a bath since they definitely need one (little dirty hens XD). One of them have very abnormally long nails, and I'm wondering is there a way you can trim a chicken's toenails...
I thought I might as well as share a funny story about one of our Blue Silkies named Elliott, whom we mistakenly thought she was a girl when we bought her from a breeder.
To start off, my family bought eight week old Elliott (originally Elenore II aka Ellie) from a lady up north last year in NH...
Our chickens were prescribed Tetracycline for 6 days for a respiratory virus(sneezing); we were told not to eat the eggs for a few days. When can we start collecting eggs for consumption once the Tetracycline is out of their system?
Just yesterday, my father bought two Silkie Bantams from a farm near by. Today I got to get a good look at them, and I noticed something strange about their legs. When I did, I noticed right away that they have Scaly Leg Mites. (I've seen/read it before in an article, so I knew what it was when...
My family and I have been debating this for at least a week now, because we aren't sure what the true sex of this silkie is. We got Ellie last fall, thinking originally it was a female, but lately we haven't seen her lay any eggs at all. Ellie is the same age as the two other chickens we hatched...
Hey there! I've visited the site a few times a while back, and I decided for once I would sign up and become a member since well...my family and I own chickens. My name is Caitlyn, you can call me Catie if you want. I'm so excited to be here and meet a whole bunch of chicken fans. I know I am.
