So the nails of my coturnixes have gotten too long. Two of them broke off a nail and that can't be good. I tried to cut them but the nail bled both times, even cutting more than 2/3rds of the way. Is bleeding normal or do you have to cut near the very tip? I'm not sure if cutting just the tip... -

Quail variant and sex identification help?
So I've got 5 adorable little quail currently almost 4 weeks old, 2 wild types (1 male, 1 female), 1 tuxedo (no sexing off pattern), and two that I'm not sure about what variant they are. Would be nice to get some input on those, especially if they can be sexed off just their patterns. See... -
Exact meaning of the term "coturnix quail"?
Looking up information on quail, the term "coturnix quail" comes up a lot. Originally I assumed this was referring to common quail aka coturnix coturnix as opposed to japanese quail aka coturnix japonica. However I've also seen "japanese quail" and "coturnix quail" used interchangeably...
