What is the best breed for setting naturally?

I am looking for a breed that is able to set well naturally. (Obviously my Pekins are not fitting the bill!). Any tips/experience would be appreciated. Thanks!

    Question about setting Pekins

My Pekin pair has been setting for 25 days and stopped setting yesterday evening! I have noticed the female go to the eggs for about 5 minutes at a time today and last evening, but isn't setting on them constantly the way she was before. The pair is still hanging around the nest, but is not...

    Bummer, eggs not hatching!

Well, here we go again... This is the 4th nest in a row this summer that has 7 eggs in it where none are hatching!! I have 7 adult homers, and my resident male 'disappeared' this spring, and since then I have only had one baby hatch (and that one was the only viable egg in a nest with 4 eggs)...

    how soon can homers breed?

I have a young male born early this spring who is already making the male 'sound'... Is he just practicing or is he already trying to court the ladies? It would be great if he could breed this summer, as I have way more females than males. Liz

    5 eggs???

My young homers (born last summer) are settling down on their first nest right now. Last night a female was setting, but today I noticed that there are 5 eggs under her!!! What!? I have 5 adult homers... one is the mom to the other 4, and then there are 4 young from 2009. I thought that 2 of...

    Pekins built nest

My Pekins have built a nice big nest in their duck house. I never see them sitting on it, or even going in their duck house for that matter, but they have built this lovely nest in there. They sometimes lay in the nest, and sometimes just on the ground outside the duck house. Does this mean...

    Ringnecks

I am looking into getting some ringneck pheasant chicks for pets. I have pigeons and ducks now. Is it reasonable to add these birds to the mix as pets? I know that often they are raised for food, but that wouldn't work for us. If I got them how would I house them over winter? How hardy...

I am looking into getting some archangels. Does anyone have any experience with this breed? I have homers now.

    just banded my first pigeons!

I just banded my first pigeon babies of the year (homers)! Last year I had a bunch of babies, but didn't band any of them. Tonight I did my first banding and it was super easy! (admittedly, my husband helped/did most of the work). Sadly, I have been away for a week and when I got back today...

Is there a way to band an adult pigeon (homer)?

    new homer?! :)

This morning a new homer is flying with my little flock! It is beautiful, pure white male (I think). It probably belongs to the neighbor a mile away who also has white homer pigeons, but maybe decided that it needs new genes to hook up with . I hope it stays because my young females need new...

    pigeon setting on duck egg?

Have you heard of a pigeon setting on a duck egg? I have a very broody homer pigeon pair, and decidedly-not-very-broody pekin ducks. Could I put a pekin egg under the pigeon? I don't know if a duck egg would even fit under a pigeon, but I could try!

    Playing favorites!

Help, One of my drakes has decided to beat up only one of the ducks! Why would this happen all of a sudden? There is a 4:1 ratio of ducks to drakes. Should I isolate the duck? The drake? As far as I can tell there is nothing different about the duck that should make her get picked on. Thanks.

    bloody bum

I just got some ducks. One of the females has a bloody bum. Could this be a prolapse? Maybe she was stressed from moving here? It does not appear to be slowing her down, and the others don't seem to be bothering her, but I am concerned. I don't want to catch her and bathe her because I...
