My broody hatched some Easter chicks for us! EE/ Silkie crosses

My white silkie broody just hatched some Easter chicks for us! The chicks weren't her own, but were from our Easter Eggers and black Silkie rooster. At first I was afraid of how goofy these chicks might look, but so far they are adorable and closely remsemble EE chicks with furry feet. My...

    I dropped a chick...

So here I am constantly monitoring my kids, telling them to be very careful when handling and holding the chicks because they are babies and very fragile... when last night I drop one while holding it in my hand! She jumped right out of my hand, I'd say about 4 feet off the ground, right on our...

Setting eggs tonight and having a lot of trouble with humidity.

I'm setting my eggs tonight in my Hovabator 1602N. I've got the temp just riught, however, I am having a lot of issues with the humidity. I barely filled the "P" shaped trough with water and I'm getting humidity in the 80th percentile. I just poured the water out and I'm and now I'm getting a...

    Question regarding Buff Orpingtons

I just ordered my first batch of eggs to hatch! We have 12 Golden Buff Orpingtons and 6 Blue Buff Orpintons coming to us next week. Obviously the Blue Buffs are different due to their coloring, but is there a difference between Buff Orpingtons and Golden Buff Orpingtons?

    Newbie with a few questions...

I just bought the HovaBator Still/Thermal Air Egg Incubator 1602N and it should be arriving soon. Am I going to need to purchase a thermometer to go with this? Or is it all set to go? Also, how long can I keep hatching eggs that I order before setting them? Is there a special way to store...

Need some advice on building a run on rocky unlevel ground.

I live in an area that is full of rocks! We have huge slates of rock running throughout our yard. To top it off, it's not very level at all. We already have our coop, but need to build a run. Does anyone have any advice for a type of run that would work for us? Here is a picture of some of...

Two of my five chicks are most likely roosters!

I don't know what to do. I got one RIR and to EE's. The RIR I got for egg laying, and the EE's I got for the novelty of have pretty eggs. Looks like my RIR and one of my EE's are roosters I have two silkies also, but they are still way too tiny to tell. What should I do? Is two roosters with...

    Two coops, one run?

Is it possible to have two coops attached to one large run? One coop on either side of the run? I've been looking through pictures and I haven't come across any that look like this. I just purchased a chicken coop and I'm thinking about purchasing another so I can house more chickens. I'd like...
