Greetings,
For my ducks bedding, I have been using straw, and the more I've used it the more I have come to dislike it. It doeskin absorb water, it takes a very long time for it to break down in our compost, and it molds very easily. So, I am wondering if there is an alternative to hay. I have...
Greetings,
I have run into a bit of an issue. I just realized that I should be moving over my ducklings to a grower, but I can only get that on July First. I can however, get my hands on chick grower, but will that be okay for my ducks?
This is what the food looks like
Thanks!
Our Muscovy recently escaped (for about two weeks), we recovered her last night. While she was escaped we saw her attempting to look after wild ducklings. We’re wondering if it’s a good idea to try and introduce her to our ducklings (who are about 4 weeks old)
I have several ducklings that are beginning to demonstrate early symptoms of nican deficiency. I'm wondering if you can give ducklings human B12 and how much you need to give to them (there approx 4 weeks old)
Last October I rescued a trio of abandoned ducks, two Peking and a Kaki Cambell. Upon further inspection I discovered that one of the Peking was a drake. Unfortunately this seriously offset the drake/hen ratio and has been causing boatloads of stress for the rest of my flock, so he's been...
I’m in Littleton, and I need a new home for my Peking drake. I have simply too many males and they seem to be stressing each other out. I’m not really hung up on price at all, only the assurance that he’s going to a good home
So, for the past two weeks our Muscovy has been on the run. After getting picked up by animal control, and subsequently released at a local lake we had all but given up hope. However tonight she was returned by an amazing group of people. As of now she’s looking very bedraggled, and we’re a...
Long story here actually; last October we heard tell of some domestic ducks that’d been dumped at a local lake. My brother and I went out the next day and proceeded to catch three domestic ducks (two Peking (a drake and a hen) and one Kaki Cambel (also a hen)) the two hens have settled down...
These are (probably) blue Swedish runner cross (runner was the mom). I don’t know if there’s any way to tell their sex without vent sexing (and that is definitely something I don’t want to do), but I’m wondering if there was anything you guys could deduce?
Disclaimer: this is all hypothetical, so it is illigal to possess either wild malards or their eggs. But what happens if a wild female mallard addops your flock and goes broody after mating with one of your ducks? Do you remove the eggs because there half domestic and violate the law surrounding...
Up until now we’ve been primarily using straw as substrate for our ducks. However we’ve been having issues with flies and smell, so I’m wondering if sand would be a better choice for bedding?
I don’t actually have any quail myself (enough birds already) but after randomly spending time on this forum, I gotta say I’ve kinda fallen in love with the little guys
Greetings,
Our runner duck recently hatched ducklings. Unfortunately we do not have the capacity to house them long term. We have found a buyer, but they are going to take all of them. I’m afraid that this will traumatize the mother. So, is there anything I can do for her, or will she be fine...
I was out doing yard work today when I saw a flicker flopping around in the grass. I’d seen it before doing the same thing, but it was always able to “fly” (something more like gliding) away. Today it couldn’t. I’ve got it in a rubber made container with a sheet over the whole thing. Any advice...
I’ve already posted something like this on the duck specific forum, but still haven’t really gotten much of an answer. I recently hatched some of my Indian runner eggs, and the dad’s a blue Swedish. I’m just curious what the ducklings will grow up to look like (I’ll attach a picture of the mamma)
I think my ducklings are a cross between my Runner duck (mom) and my Blue Swedish (dad) and I’m wondering if anyone has any idea what they’ll look like as adults?
So, this is my first time trying to raise “lap ducks” and so far things have been going pretty well. I hatched them in my room, and have been holding them several hours each day. There now almost a full week old. However I’m going on a short trip this upcoming weekend (Sunday afternoon to...
Help! We appear to have a sick duckling. Her head is spinning, and she keeps falling over on its back. It is listless, and it is having trouble opening its eyes. We gave it some apple cider vinegar, and we have quarantined her from the other ducks. What does she have? And what can we do for her...
Greetings,
I have a mother duck who's ducklings have started hatch this morning! I was wondering if I could feed her the duck starter, or if I should have a higher feeder (so the ducklings can't reach) full of duck food.
