What kind of comb is this?

20 w/o pullet from an EE hen with a pea comb and a BSL roo with a JUMBO single comb. Is this just an XL lady pea comb? It’s so much bigger than the other hens’ combs, but also has no points! Would this qualify as a modified comb? Just curious!

    Is this bumblefoot?

I noticed a hen today with a little swelling between her toes and the slightest limp. This picture is after I soaked the foot in epsom salt. This is bumblefoot, right? What is the reddish coloring to the side? I just wanted a little advice before I started pulling away the plug, which I think is...

    White clumps under wattles

There is some kind of white, clumpy buildup under my rooster’s wattles. Both sides have it but this side is worse. I haven’t tried to pull any off yet. It’s attached to the feathers. Does anyone know what this is?

    Thoughts on this chicken? Aaackk!

Not sure of age/breed/sex!!!!! Any suggestions for how to integrate it into my flock!?!?! Insert a Cathy comic frame here: Aaackkkk!!!! P.s. this is a hawk and no birds were harmed but I obviously need more predator proofing from aerial attacks!!!!! The roosters in another run about 200 feet...

    Rooster pad

I have a coop that is 7.5x2.5 feet—so a little over 18 feet in area. The roosting bar is as long and wide as the coop pretty much. There is an attached covered run that is about 16x8 (128 sq ft) plus a yard that is between 1500-2000 feet in area (it’s an oval). Does this seem like adequate room...

    Is this cocci?

This morning a pullet (3.5 m/o) and a roo (2.5 m/o) both had very watery poops with what looks like blood, maybe? I poked the pink bits around a bit and they seem to be kinda solid, but slimey. Both chickens are eating, drinking and moving about normally, as is the rest of the flock. I’m try to...

    Cocci?—first experience

Hi, I have 2 chicks that are about 4 weeks. They are currently spending the day in a dog crate in my chickens’ run and going inside at night. This morning I noticed bloody poop. Pullet or Cockerel?

I have a group of birds who are full siblings from two hatches. Most of them are black and white barred. They’re BYMs. Pullet or cockerel? 10 week old ^ Here are the siblings for reference: 10 week olds ^ (maybe #2 is a pullet, but I was thinking cockerel.) 14 week old ^ pretty positive is a...

    RIP Novak

Rest in peace, Novak—a young cockerel from my first ever hatch. It was my fault for shoddy patchwork on a new rooster pad (I got more HWC btw). You were beautiful and fun to watch grow. I believe a raccoon got him.

    Splash feathering?

This is an almost 7 wko cockerel (I think). I am wondering what the “name” or description of this feathering so far might be, as well as any guesses as to the genetics it might carry. Here are his parents:

    Wound under my hen’s ear

I just noticed a wound under one of my hen’s ears. She is acting completely normally. I’m not sure when it happened. There is no dried blood on or around the wound but it’s lookin a little brownish... like dirt mixed with plasma maybe? I’m guessing this is from a tussle with Mr. Rooster... I...

    Is this cockerel crested?

Are these feathers the start of a cresy or just cool eye brows? He’s a BYM. Father was supposed to be a BR, but I have assumed he is probably a BSL. The mother is a blue rock. If this is a crest, does that imply he has any specific breeds in his lineage? Father Son. 😁

    Day 20–Humidity down to 58

I am on day 20 of incubation and this morning my humidity dropped from 70 to 58 over the course of about 4 hours. Of 15 eggs, 1 has hatched and 12 others have externally pipped now. This is only my second hatch and I’m worried I have shrink wrapped them bc I can see the membrane of one has...

    Late Intro

I never did an intro, so here it is now: Hello BYC, my name is Katie. I have had chickens for just under a year now. I had never had birds.
