I have about 7 quail balding in the same spot. I picked up the wrong feed which is lower in protein than what they usually eat. The skin isn’t irritated. They’re in a 8’x10’ ground pen.
I started with 40 and when I did the float test, only 5 didn’t develop. Today is day 17 and so far 1 has hatched. Such an exciting experience for the whole family :celebrate
I have a variety in one 8x10 coop. Celadon, Italian, JB, and possibly Pearl.
I have 6:12 ratio. Too many males fighting naturally. How do you choose which male stays? I have a couple that are definitely aggressive. I have one wh
So far since Thanksgiving, I only find 1 egg daily. They’re 4 months old. Mix of Italian, JB and Caledon.
I have a 8x10 outdoor coop. The male/female ratio is currently is 2:10. I have enough light and calcium. I just wanted some additional feedback.
I have 2 hens who are terrified every time I collect eggs or anytime I go into their ground coop. It has a lot of hiding spots but they panic and tried of fight their way out. One chipped her beak because of it.
Will they ever calm down enough to lay eggs or should I just cull?
One is 3 months...
After adjusting light, stress etc I found my first egg last night! Can’t wait for more. 10 female confirmed. My daughters reaction to me explaining how they come out was priceless :gig
These guys are so funny! They remind me of kids. :lau
Deep cleaning the run today consisted of quails playing on the shovel, bag of pine shavings and anything else I had. I thought for sure they would go into a corner like last time.:gig
My husband built this run for the quail. I have so much room to add whatever and however. I wanted to add a grow out and a bachelor/cull pen. Should I make corner cages going up or make a ground pen? It’s an 8x10 run.
The younger quail will be 3 weeks this weekend. My others in the new run are 5 weeks. Is this a good age to add them together? Any good advice? I’ve read about ACV spray and just keeping an eye on them. There will be 13 altogether in a 8x10 run.
It gets 100+ outside but I have a lot of shade where the quail will go. Is 3 weeks too soon to put them outside in this heat? I have a couple of water baths (small) for them. 6 quail chicks
We’ve picked a spot for our quail run. The only thing I’m concerned about is that it’s about 3 ft away from our oleanders. They wouldn’t have access to them. Has anyone else built close to oleander?
We have a little over half acre and I’ve been wanting to get into this. I put it off until we found a Coturnix Quail in our yard. As of now he’s temporarily in our house (100+ outside) but I am eager to build a coop for him and get more after researching them.
