Hello friends,
This is Ice. He is part of my Crested Ophir Bantam breed creation program. He has the funkiest coolest comb... a wickel comb ending in a forked cup. Essentially terminating in a v shape. Ziggy, his Dad, has a traditional wickel comb (aka S shaped comb) ending in a single blade...
While Snowball's Mother Pearl (she's a cochin b x oegb) is off laying eggs, he is a diligent babysitter to his little 'sisters from another mister'😆.. ok there are pullets and cockerels in the little clutch of 8 lol but I am so impressed with his mothering skills. Keeping them all together and...
Hi Everyone,
I have been dreaming up a proper chook home that I can be proud to call by its proper name of 'Hukumatapa', and magically all the parts are starting to align! I have a very long way to go still and I'm sort of working backwards with no diy skills but I will get there.
On Tuesday a...
Hi All,
What do you make of this little ones antics? How do I stop this little chick from chasing the newcomer around the lil brooder, and biting his toes? Will it just stop on its own and accept a new bud? What do you think?
Hi All,
I love my crested bantams. They bring humour, lots of entertainment, are fab company and produce the tastiest eggs. They are a completely unique flock, and in a country where crested birds are very uncommon, they attract quite a bit of attention to all who visit.
With my lack of...
Hi All 😊
I know there are some real knowledgeable people out there.. so I thought I'd ask as Google is not my friend 😆 Does anyone know all the different breeds of chicken with skull herniation? My beautiful big crested birds have skull herniation and I'm more baffled as to their possible...
One of my mamma hens has abandoned her 2 chicks while laying or flirting or something. Rufous, who is an unrelated, just matured, crested roo, has become their baby sitter and is taking his role very seriously. He is even finding them titbits. What a cutie 🥰
So for 3 days in a row I carried my chickens, 2 at a time to their new coops. I had to juggle coops to make way for new hatches. So 2 lil flocks of same age chicks had to be moved into 2 new coops. It's now the evening of day 4 and both sets of chooks have put themselves to bed in the right...
One of my crested chicks has been so so sick with a respiratory infection. He was in respiratory distress yesterday and seriously gasping for breath. Poor little one. I put him on my nebuliser with nano silver, and gave him silver to drink. He had been on 2 days of antibiotics and stress mix...
Hi Everyone 😊
I thought it would be fun to see everyone's eggs. Either inside or out, or raw or cooked, or in a basket looking pretty... or in a tasty dish😋
I'll get the ball rolling..
Looking forward to seeing your yolks 😋🍳
What do you think of my super floofy banties? They are wheaten/black or blue lil pullets, and the roos are black breasted red, or blue breasted red.
(There are also a couple of white birds in the clutch, they are both recovering from fowl pox so I haven't photographed them yet.. almost healed...
Ziggy is acting like a broody hen to teach our funny girl Beanie, how to lay eggs. She's more keen on a treasure hunt for treats in there tho, and is clueless haha. He's hilarious 🤣
I just had all the mammas and babies arrive at the main feeding station at the same time as all the adults. Ziggy.. AKA Daddy Roo seemed most curious about the chicks. Stood there almost frozen, like shock 🤣 watching them.. kinda looked awed. So it made me wonder what really goes on in those...
Hi Everyone,
I just couldn't resist Pearl. She has a cochin Mum and an oegb Dad. She has no feathers on her feet, lovely colouring and is a very friendly bird. I know she's ecstatic to be out of a cage.. although she has yet to discover the whole garden. That will come in time. How cute is she?
Hi Everyone,
I'm posting a collection of pics of 6 pullets. These 6 have super satiny soft feathers.. their sisters have wooly silkie feathers and are still dull fluff balls. What colours would you describe them as? Thanx all 🙃
Hi All,
I have 2 mixed breed hens who are wheaten with some black barring, no crests. The cockerel is a crested sulmtaler, with a pretty big fluffy crest.
15/16 of their chick's have hatched today. 1 still under one of the hens. They have hatched with the chipmunk striped pattern on the body...
Posting some pics of my friendly little chicks. The smooth satiny chicks are so pretty and their silkie feathered siblings, not so much😂😂😂
Here's hoping they're just ugly ducklings waiting to metamorphosise into cinderellas 😂 They are still super cute imho😆😏
Finally managed to take a few phone shots of my three crested chicks. They are rather camera shy. Ziggy has new girls.. calendula & marigold, who are rather obsessed with him.. while Zoe and Zara avoid him most of the time. I'm sure they will have a change of heart in a few months time. Is there...
So on closer inspection of my chicks wing feathers. They appear to be split shafted. The rest of their feathers are fluff. Like silkie fluff. It's very soft and is basically like down feathers. Their feathers don't curl backwards. The few wing feathers are their only real..ish looking feathers...
