Hi Everyone,
So a hen is broody for the second time this season. She is a great hen and accepts day old chicks to raise that I get for her., about 3 times in the past. It's October and she is now broody again. It's been about a week. When can I introduce the day olds? Should I wait at least two...
Believe me, when my hen went broody this spring I was elated!! Got 11 fertile eggs from a friend, she hatched 10!
What a wonderful few weeks we had watching all of this! Yes, more work but worth it.
Now she has gone broody again, and so has another of my flock of 15! (and the 10 babies - soon...
I'm feeling horribly guilty:
Last night I went out to put the girls to bed.
Some were already roosting when I opened the coop to let them out to free rage for a few minutes.
I noticed droplets of blood from inside the coop going out and after some looking found that one of
my Buttercups was...
Can an 8 month old chicken possibly be molting in January?? It's in the single digits here, and has been cold for several weeks!
I have a Buttercup in bad shape from feather loss. Brought her into the garage tonight (above freezing) since we will be in single digits.
No rooster here, 16...
My 6 month old Dominique is just sitting in the sun this morning off on her own.
The other 15 chickens are also in the outdoor run but doing normal chicken stuff like
scratching around etc. She also was not interested in the daily morning treats.
Two days ago I noticed that she was "a little...
OK, chicken behavior question:
Two EE's who cannot be apart during the day. Cookie and "Cookies Shadow" if you will.
Both are first to the coop at night. Cookie goes to the same spot every night.
Cookies Shadow insists on going to the "prime" spot and creating havoc on the roosts when
the other...
Cleaning the coop and saw #10 egg broken - by me!!
I'm so upset. We have 16 pullets and this is egg #10, laid on the floor of the coop.

I have 8 guinea keets and have had them since hatch. They are all very nice.
Unfortunately, change in plan at the homestead.
Would like to place in nice home with protection at night.
Let me know if you are interested...
Also posted on "Managing your Flock" thread:
We have 14 chickens in a nice coop with a pretty good run. They are in the run during the day
then locked in the coop at night.
Our 8 guineas will soon move from the brooder into the coop in a close, but separate area.
The plan is to have the...

My chickens are 9 weeks old, handled a great deal, docile and in the big chicken house with an outdoor run.
(there are 14 mixed)
We also have 8 keets + 2 EE's that came together and are now 4 weeks old. In the brooder in the garage.
The plan is to have them all live together in the big chicken...
I'm not sure if this is the right place to post this question.
Please let me know if I should be on another thread.
We have 14, 7 week old pullets out in the chicken house. They are all very docile, we spent a lot of time with them. They like our company.
Now we have 8, 1 week old keets and 2...
Just to say hello. New and searching/researching the forums for insight and input.
My first post was tonight regarding a funny bird (perhaps crooked neck) not sure.
Great site. Thanks
Hi, one of my Black Astrolop pullets, since yesterday, has some strange behavior. She is backing up into corners and appears to be trying to scratch/pull something from her chest, or legs. It started yesterday. I cannot see anything with my eyes, she does not appear injured. The rest of the...
