Hi , can anyone tell if this Orpington is hen or rooster ? It is one of six and earliest to fully feather among all the siblings. (The rest are still fairly fluffy) The hackle feather's look rounded to me but it also has a prominent comb whuch us confusing...and idea ?
Hi all,
I read that you could tell the gender of 2 week old chick by the shape of their wings, but I am not sure whether I could differentiate between rounder wings and longer wings. Can you guess the gender of these chicks ? They are gold laced Orpingtons.
Can anyone help ? My baby chick is not walking properly..she is 3 weeks old and born with a left leg that is misshapen.. She is using it as a crutch to balance rather than to walk. I included some photos .. Will she be able to live as an adult chicken ?
She is a very sweet girl.
For those who does feather sexing, what do you think of the chicks in the pictures, girl or boy ? They are gold laced Orpingtons, all born on Easter Day... Day 2 today.
They are quite fluffy , so hard to get a good picture of the wings... hopefully you can tell
I have two chicks born yesterday, so Day 2 today. One is really active and moved around. The other just seems tired and lying down a lot. Is this normal ? The temperature in the brooder is currently at 97F / 36 °C. Is this too warm?
Picture attached.
My Chick is 2 days old, she crouches down mostly and only stands up for a few second. She seems to be leaning on her right leg. When she moves , she hops around. Does she have a splayed left leg ? She is eating and drinking but she is tiny.
I am thinking of adding Ameraucanas to my flock..I have Brahmas, Orpingtons and Faverolles. Can any Ameraucanas owners share their experience with this breed ? Are they friendly and worth getting ?
Hello, I posted yesterday but this time with photos. My faverolle's eyes started watering about a week and half ago, occasionally sneezing. Now she will not open her eyes and when she does for a flit second, they are all watery and red. She is not eating and makes guttural sound as if she has...
One of my chickens started to sneeze and have watery eyes, and sounds like she has mucus in her lungs. I have isolated her but my other chickens started to sneeze. How would I know if this is just respiratory disease or avian flu ? And is there anything I can do ? I have these chickens since...
I have a premature chick which hatched a week ago. It seemed to have absorbed all its yolk, there is nothing hanging out. He is really weak and could just about wobble on its feet and cry softly. He doesn't seem to be able to eat on its own and I have been trying to coax it to eat small grains...
Hi everyone, meet Mars and Rover, born on the day the Mars Rover landed. I have been reading about faverolles and thought I will give it a try, and these two hatched from my incubator. I am loving their personalities so far, they are incredibly sweet and energetic. They like to run circles...
I have one orpington chick which just hatched, Day 2. I bought blue orpington eggs but read that blue Orpingtons do not breed true, so it might turn out to be black, blue or splash. Does anyone know how to predict the colour? The chick has yellow down on its body with light black down on its head.
