We have 13 eggs. Yesterday evening we noticed the first shaker. It was still shaking this morning, but not piped yet. Since nothing else appeared to be moving we decided to float test again (second time). We had one sinker at the first float test and the rest looked to be ok. This float...
Ok, I had to take a break after pulling up posts all morning and running the fence back out some for room to dig so I figured while I was in here I'd ask this.
Right now we have 11 ducks total (and 2 geese), but we will also let them hatch and likely even incubate a few extras. So eventually...
Our son just HAD to have runner ducks when he saw a picture. And then once he saw the crests he had to have them too. They are just a few days old, but are already fun to watch and handle (we're making sure we work with them more then the Pekins we just got so they don't get too wild).
We picked up 6 Pekin at Tractor Supply on 4/11. They are pretty cool and seem to be doing well, but are fairly wild now (only handled them every other day or so). Now if I only had time to finish digging the pond and waterfall.

We lucked into the last minute big order cancellation at Meyer and were able to get some Welsummers now instead of later in the year. We have 2 roos and 8 pullets. It took us a few days to have enough time to take good pictures, but here they are. I really liked the look of the birds and the...
I've got 6 week and a half old Pekins in one brooder. I just put 10 Welsummers in another this morning. Tomorrow or Friday I should get 5 more runner ducks and a pair of geese.
I use 2.5'x3' rabbit cages for brooders.
Am I going to need to pick up a couple more brooder cages and lights? Or...
We need a coop, but are pretty tied up in terms of time so we were looking at prebuilt sheds as a starting point.
Unfortunately the "best" option locally is built with pressure treated walls and floor. These chickens are being raised organically so that poses a problem. It is acceptable to...
