    Silver spitzhaubans

I may have spelled that wrong. Anyone have these? Need to know about temperament and noise level from owners not the generalized or hatchery blurbs which are either contradictory or not in-depth. Trust real keepers opinions as you live with these beauties.

    Laying questions

Most of my girls started laying a week ago, we have had 9 eggs in 8 days, 3 on one of those days! My questions are is laying in the late afternoon odd, after 2 pm? Of my 10 girls only 7 are ready to lay, the first was Aileen 8 days ago, I believe that Zelda my other EE laid on Wen. because the...

    Do pullets pace before POL?

This is Aileen a week ago, except for squatting she was her usual standoffish I prefer not to touched self. She is 21 weeks old, an EE, active but laid back. Today she is jumping in my lap, allowing me to check her vent, following me, pacing, and going in and out of the coop repeatedly. I can...

    POL soon?

These young ladies are 20 weeks old, the Australorps, BRs, and EE are all doing the squat, stomp, chortle. All are checking out and rearranging the nest boxes, much more vocal and a bit testy. The BO squats a bit but I think she may be a few weeks out yet. Any thoughts on how close we are to laying?

    How much to feed?

I have a flock of 10 pullets, 20 week old 2 EE, 2 BR, 2 Australorps, 1 BO, and 1 GLW. 1 cuckoo Maran 17 weeks, and 1 Jersey Giant 18 weeks. I feed Kalmbach Hen House Reserve layer feed, separate grit and oyster shell, black soldier fly larvae as a treat a couple times a week, fresh white clover...

    River birch and gourds

Are mulched leaves from my river birch safe to use in run? I know the girls can have pumpkin but what else is safe? Squash? Gourds? Trying to plan ahead. Are mums safe as well?

First pics are Mauve BR almost 19 weeks, same age on BO and EE, last BR is Prudence. I think they are several weeks away correct?

    Kalmbach Henhouse reserve

I picked up a bag of Kalmbach Henhouse Reserve layer feed tonight and the ladies loved it. Does anyone have any experience with this product? My girls have been on crumbles up to this point and eat well but I’ve not been thrilled with previous brands, one store brand, TSC, had moldy spots after...

    PMS?

Do pullets get bitchy in the weeks leading up to POL? I have 8 17 week old girls, 2 EE, 2 BR, 2 Australorps, a BO and a GLW. It has been hot and humid here as well. The Australorps and BO show more red and enlarged combs and wattles especially the lorps but 1 EE and the GLW have much wider...

    POL close?

17 week old Australorps seem to be closer than the others. Squatting and eating like hogs. These girls never were as assertive at taking treats and would wait their turn to eat. For the past week they have been pushing to the front and gobbling everything in sight. Should I put out oyster shells...

    Close to laying?

My girls are 15 weeks old, the ladies pictured all squat for me, does their comb and wattle development look like they are within a few weeks of laying? I apologize for the dim lighting.

    Roof vents

We are completing a 7x7 resin shed coop conversion and are having a debate about types of roof vents. I am leaning towards whirlybirds husband is thinking static that my plan is overkill. I have adequate venting for air intake with roof vent but not enough as a stand alone solution. I think that...

    Thoughts on crosses?

This is Aileen, my very standoffish EE. Yesterday I noticed these spankles on her feathers, she has always been a pretty girl but now, wow! About 10-12 weeks old, any thoughts on what kind of cross she may be?

    He or she?

This is Siobhan, I think she is a pullet, about 10 weeks old. My other Australope, Sinead, I’m pretty positive is female but her tail is shorter. Both act like pullets and are super sweet. They are shyer than the BRs and are quietest girls I have. Please tell me she’s a girl.

    Perches

We will be using 2x4s for perches, which angle is best? Do they perch on the 2” edge or the 4” edge? 2 perches how high and how far apart. I read that Orpington’s should jump far.
