    Blue or self blue?

(Sorry for the bad English, it’s not my first language and I refuse to use ChatGPT 😂) Is this very-backyard chick blue or self blue? MOTHER: His mother is a bantam hen, and I have no blue in any of my bantams. One of my bantams is a self blue/lavender Mille fleur, and several of the other...

    Sexing peachicks (8 weeks)

Any guesses on their sex? In two days they will be 8 weeks old. I think two boys and two girls, but I’ve never had peachicks before.

Chicks die at day ~10 of incubation

I currently have 8 peafowl eggs and 8 Brahma eggs in my incubator. Five of the peachicks died around day 10 of incubation (but all the Brahmas are developing). What do you think the reason could be? Inbreeding, disease, something else? I don’t know anything about the parents (they are not my...

Help! Egg bound serama (broken egg)

My serama got egg bound today. The yolk was running down her feathers/feet, and a deformed egg stuck out of her vent. After a warm bath, this thing came out (I didn’t drag it out, she managed to push it out herself with just a little bit of help): She ate and drank afterwards, but she still...

My smallest egg so far (3 g, 2 cm)

My serama just laid the tiniest egg I’ve ever seen: approximately 3 grams (my kitchen scale doesn’t weigh milligrams so I don’t have the exact weight) and 2 cm long. 😅😂🥰 I just had to share the pictures with you!

Nine cockerels or nine pullets, or too soon for sexing?

These silkie/booted bantam crosses look identical to me at three weeks. Is it too soon for sexing, or do you think I’m really lucky/unlucky with my hatch? (I will post updated pictures in a couple of weeks)

    Genotype of Norwegian Jærhøns?

Does anyone know the genotype of the Norwegian jærhøns (and Bantam jærhøns)? It is an autosexing breed, and they are barred. They come in two colour variations, but the only information I can find on Norwegian websites is that they are called “brown-yellow” and “yellow-brown”. 😅 What is the...

    Mille fleur seramas

I have six serama chicks and three serama/booted bantam (Mille fleur) chicks. The sixth serama is silkie feathered, so I guess the seramas aren’t 100% purebred. Do you think these chicks could be used in a Mille fleur serama project? What do you think their genotype is? I think I see some...

Black chick with yellow head + lavender question

What do you think the genotype to this chick is, and how do you think it will end up looking? The mother is a lavender English Araucana and the father is a buff silkie. I bred them to find out whether the lavender araucana was breeding true (I bought English araucana hatching eggs and some of...

One of my hens’ eggs always die around day 10

I’ve hatched a lot of chicks the last couple of years. The percentage of fertile eggs is 90-100%, and I usually lose only a few chicks during incubation or hatching (and they tend to die very early or on day 20-21). One of my hens, a lavender European araucana, has never laid eggs with viable...

    Silkie hen acting weird

I have a 1,5 year old silkie hen (hatched from eggs I bought from another breeder). She has acted weird for most of her adult life. She seems weak, and she hasn’t started laying eggs again after her ‘winter break’. Her behaviour/symptoms are the following: * No eggs * She only lifts her head...

Black breasted chick turned out to be a hen (?)

I posted another thread a while ago, asking about the gender of this chick. Everybody agreed it was a cockerel because of its black breast, but she turned out to be a hen. I thought I’d share some updated photos of her just for fun, and if anyone has some suggestions on her genetics, I’d...

    Bumblefoot? What to do?

Is this bumblefoot? I got this roo about a month ago, and I recently discovered what I think is bumble foot - or bumble feet? I put his feet in lukewarm water for about ten minutes and then cleaned them with a disinfectant and sprayed them with blue spray, but I guess this isn’t enough...

    Genotype of this hen?

What do you think this hen’s genotype is? Her father is Fiftyfive Flowery silver, and her mother is either Cream Legbar/Swedish flower hen OR Cream legbar/Rhode Island red. The 55 Flowery is e+/e+, B/B, S/S and mo/mo. She is one of the darkest of these chicks, the others are her siblings.

    Moving a broody hen

I’m hatching eggs in an incubator (hatching day today!), and one of my silkie hens went broody three days ago. I tried to move her inside so I can put the chicks under her tonight, but she became clearly distressed and just stood still in the cage for about two hours. I moved her outside again...

    Buff pullet with grey underfluff

This buff pullet has grey underfluff. What gene causes this? She has a little black on some of her tail and wing feathers, as well. Sorry for the terrible quality of the last picture! 😅 Could I use her in a satin Mille fleur project?

    What color is this silkie?

The first one: And the second one: I ordered eggs that were supposed to be either red/buff or partridge, but I got a mix of buff, partridge, black with silver leakage and white. What genotype do you think these two might have? They are 9 weeks old.

    What colour are these hens?

What patterns do you see in these hens? What color are they? I don’t know the genotype; they are mixed breeds, and I haven’t bred them myself. Left: unknown breed. Right: RIR x Cream Legbar. Crossed with an ayam cemani rooster, she got 50% black barred (?) chicks with yellow skin, beak, feet...

    Ayam cemani mixes

F1 Ayam cemani x Silkie mixes. All of them turned out dark grey with dark skin. 😊 Ayam cemani x Marans and AC x Silverudd blue: I am hoping to make a silkie feathered cross with darker skin, but with better egg laying and less broody behaviour.

What do you think of this silkie rooster+hens?

What do you think of this white silkie rooster and the silkie hens (one black, one white, and one splash - or is the splash one white with leakage?) They are about 4-5 months on these pictures. I don’t have pictures of their feet, but they all have five toes and feathered feet.
