These two are 12 weeks in a few days. I’m concerned Blossom might be a he.. my hope is she is just developing a little quicker than Basil 🙏🏼🙏🏼 her comb and wattles are bigger and more red 😬
what is your opinion
My local feed store has 3-day old straight run Sebrights can you tell sex by coloring - like with some breeds? I want to get a couple for my broody hen, but female only. Some are solid yellow and some have stripes. Photo attached. Thank you for your input.
Here’s my two chocolate Orpingtons almost 20 weeks - Willow and Swetpea. Willow has always looked like a hen, but seriously… these tail feathers!!! Compared to Sweetpea, there’s only a couple feathers sticking up. Also in this photo take a look at her neck feathers. 😳Should I be concerned...
Need to change feed due to cost. Does anyone use the TSC layer feed - Producers Pride? Do your hens like it?
Any pros or cons to share besides cost?
I currently use Purina Layena and cost is up ….again so looking to make a change. If so, do I do a gradual transition like I do with horse feed...
Posting these for my sister. These are 9 week old lavender Orpingtons. She’s suspicious that Lolly might be a Larry. I know 9 weeks may be to early to tell, but the red comb and waddles - compared to Opal??? 🤷🏻♀️
Thank you for your expertise and input.
Sorry so lengthy, but heres a bit of the back story:
My 1 year old hen named Dixie lost her best friend Peaches 5 months ago- it was heartbreaking for all of us and Dixie was very upset about it too they were inseparable since 2 days old.
Peaches was at the top of the pecking order and my...
One of my 10 week old chicks developed a raspy chirp a few days ago. It’s the white/black one - Sunshine.
Besides that all behaviors and eating is normal. Is this unusual ? Something I need to be concerned about?
One of my hens lays a dry almost gritty egg shell - not smooth like the others. Other than that it’s a beautiful yoke and taste great!
Anyone know what causes this? They all eat the same feed. Thank you for your input.
Not sure if it’s too soon to tell, but I’m concerned Sunshine might be a Roo. I’m certainly no expert, but it seems the neck feathers are pointy, but possibly it’s just the coloring. She’s also is very pushy with the other three chicks. Can anyone tell?
These are my Ameraucanas. the one on...
Certainly someone here has seen this behavior before, so I hope to learn what this is about. One of my laying hens started picking up sticks and leaves and throwing them over back as if trying to cover herself up. She tosses them on one side then the other side. This is the first time I’ve...
I just got these two hens from a neighbor and have added them to my flock of three. Meet Duchess and Sweetpea.
Maybe Sweetpea is RIR?? my neighbor doesnt know the breeds. She had them for production only, not pets so laughed that I named them. 😒
Anyway, I appreciate and value your...
I started my chicken obsession this year. Got my first two chicks in March this year at the feed store, a RIR and Black Sex Link. Got two more in April for the grandkids - EEs, so I’m new to owning chickens and love them! I’ve learned so much from BYC so I've decided to join. So far I just...
