My brooder layed on her eggs until 3 hatched. One was either attempting to hatch and died or was squashed. She left the eggs and took her chicks off. Is this usual? We heard peeping from one of the remaining 6 eggs so moved them to another brooder and one hatched over night.
We just had a chick hatch and is our first time. Hatched by a brooder. Do I need to introduce the food and water or will momma do it? Is it OK to hold or will momma reject?
I have seen others talk about baking the egg shells to crush and feed back to the chickens. What is the purpose of baking and if you do it how do you do it? Temp time, size etc.
I have an Americana in the new coop. I inherited some hens and don't really know what all I have. But I know there were not Americanas. In the old coop, I have been getting some colored eggs and just recently been getting purple eggs? And theories out there on who is laying colored eggs and...
I took on a flock from a lady who was no longer able to care for them. I am looking to see what kinds I have gotten. Can anyone recognize any from this pic? I think there are sapphires, Isa Brown, but don't know others.
