My hen continues to suffer with crop issues. I have brought her back to hospital in the basement after treating for sour crop last month. Ten days before that I treated for the same. Now I am using ACS which I started yesterday. Nothing seems to be coming out of her. She pukes when leaning...
My hen has sour crop again after recovering 2 weeks ago. This time much more stubborn. She would puke whenever I picked her up. I've had her separated since Friday (this will be day 6). Still not empty this morning, although significantly smaller than when first noticed. Water balloon texture...
I'm treating for worms with Fenbendazole. I am noticing my hen picks her tongue up when I insert the applicator. I'm giving her 1.5 ml; she weighs 6 lbs.
Question: Is it OK if some of the med gets under her tongue. I have to do it alone, so it's a little tough. I feel sorry for her.
Hello All and Happy New Year,
I have a 3 year old English Orp whom I just finished treating with Monistat for sour crop. She has been having wet stools for about a month. I believe the sour crop may have been present for about that long, maybe longer. It wasn't until she became very lethargic...
Please advise on a coyote bite wound that happened about four hours ago. My three hens (not the TV show) were on my side yard while I was with the dog in front. Sudden shrill squawking and all 3 came running to me. I led them to the run and they all seemed fine, pecking and walking about. I...
Hi Everyone,
I am a little concerned about one of my 3 girls, named May. English Orp, a little more than 2 years old.
She has heretofore been my least vocal hen, however, for the past 4-5 days, she is constantly emitting a steady cluck or grunt. Today a few more things suggest something is going...
I have 3 hens, 2 English Orps, and a Minorca. The Minorca was my best layer, averaging 5-6 per week. She started her 1st molt (she's about 15 mos.) about a month ago and stopped laying altogether.
The 2 Orps really aren't great producers, but they were laying up until 2 weeks ago, at which time...
Hello All,
My English Orp, 15 mos. old, has a very enlarged crop. She has been exhibiting broody behavior, such as reluctance to leave the nest, and constant clucking, for the past 2-3 days. That's when she also laid last. I was just checking her out and noticed the crop. Wow!
Any advice most...
Well, the black Australorp pullet I got in November lays small white eggs, has white earlobes (with a tinge of green), yellow soles, and is still maybe 3/4 of the size of my 2 English Orps. Any ideas as to what she really is?
It just dawned on me that I may be making a mistake by continuing to feed one of my English Orps layer feed despite the fact that she hasn't laid in more than a month. The other one hasn't missed a beat, laying nearly every day.
Should I revert to starter crumbles for the one that stopped? I am...
Hi All,
After losing one of three 7 month-old English Orps a week ago to a hawk, we have a new pullet. She's a 3-4 month old Australorp. She's about 3/4 the size of the 2 existing. Here's what I've been doing.
Both nights we've had her, she's slept in a crate in our basement.
Sunday was the...
Being complacent and procrastinating always comes back to bite you, like a hawk. That's what happened Tuesday, when we lost June, 6 month-old sister of April and May, to a hawk.
Four months ago, I built an 8x8 pen, 4 feet high (not thought out, should have been higher), from straight trees...
It's been an interesting hour. My chickens (3 English Orps) have been free-ranging in my yard since June. Aside from evidence of predators around the coop at night, there have been no issues during the day-until now. I thank GOD I decided to work on my AC unit today, which put me on the East...
I would like to ask about coop bedding. I have a pre-fab coop (for now) that has 1-inch deep pull-out trays as flooring. It's a lousy design, but for now I have to make it work. I'm looking at mid-June as the time I'll be putting out 3 English Orps. Deep bedding won't work because of the shallow...
Hi All. I thought I should check and see your opinions of this chick's vent. We got 3 English Orps Monday. First time newbie. They are 8-10 days old.All 3 are acting perfectly fine, with great appetites and hitting the waterer as expected. I noticed some dried what appeared to be cord remnant...
Hi All,
I just picked up my first 3 chicks, English Orps. Brand new to keeping hens. I plan on just having layers for now. My neighbor gave me a coop, which I have come to realize may be more of a curse than a blessing. It is this pre-fab gambrel. I was originally planning to get 2 RI Reds in...
