Hi all,
One of my olive eggers (1 year old) has been lethargic the last 2-3 days, to the point where she didn’t even get off the roost today. She is presenting signs of coccidiosis (puffed feathers, lethargy, loss of appetite), I have not see blood in her stool. Everyone else in the flock...
Hey all,
So it appears I have my first sick bird. She’s got a very poopy butt and is lethargic as of today (not coming off the roost and then when she did just standing). I was originally thinking it might be vent gleet but after looking at more pictures I’m not sure as it isn’t white...
Hey all!
I had a broody hen that I couldn’t break so I decided to let her sit, today she debuted her chicks! It appears 5 have hatched and are doing well. It’s really something to watch her teach them how to be a chicken.
Alright so this is the 4th or 5th time I’ve gotten a yolk like this from a new layer. It’s never intact and looks off. Mottled yolk maybe? Any ideas and how to correct?
Hi all,
I’m located in upstate NY, my coop uninsulated and I haven’t used any heat so far this winter. It’s been fairly mild so far for our winters averaging mid 20s. I had one minor frostbite issue with my jersey giant roo on his waddles when it reached 2 degrees but he’s fine now and my 16...
Hey y’all.
Last call for my 6, 4-5 month old Jersey Giant Roosters! I’m located in Delaware county, NY and will go meet up if anyone is interested.
Thank you
Hey all!
This is my first fall and will be my first winter with my chickens. I’m in upstate NY, the days are getting shorter and colder quickly here (30s at night). My formerly second best layer hasn’t laid in about two weeks, she’s acting healthy and fine, I’m assuming because of the shorter...
So I’ve tried finding places for my five, 12 week old Jeresey Giant cockerels all across Facebook and on BYC. I’ve had a few people say they want them then back out the day before we meet up. Since the most recent one I’ve had no luck finding them a place.
I have thrown around the idea of...
Hey all. I think I know the obvious answer to my question but what do we think with these two? They’re 12 week old Jersey Giants. I know for sure I have 2 other cockerels in the group because they’re crowing and their combs and waddles are much larger than these two. These two haven’t crowed yet...
Well this is a first for me. One of my new layers laid this “egg” on the roost. At first though thought it was a broken egg but I took a closer look and sure enough it looks like a little jalapeño, maybe I should cut back their red pepper intake 😂
I thought I had 6 pullets although only 3 of them are laying so far. In addition to all my reading I have heard no crowing, no obvious rooster standout and I and I have asked others input on rooster vs hen and everyone has said pullets. I was surprised to see what appears to be a bullseye to me...
Hi all. I’m trying to decide which Jersey Giants rooster I want to keep. I have 6 total and narrowed it down to two. They’re both very friendly and pretty, the only difference really is the comb, one has more points than the other. I’ve tried to find industry standards but all I can really find...
Hi all! I have a group of 17, 8 week old Jersey Giants. Everyone gets along just fine still but I am wondering how long I can keep the cockerels together without having problems. I think I have 6-7 cockerels but it’s still too early to call on some of them. Thanks for your help!
Another one of our hens started laying today (actually used the nesting box to boot) and my daughter was stoked to find a surprise egg! I had to share and figured y’all would appreciate it as much as I do.
Hi all!
I have 6-7 (they’re 7 weeks old so not 100% sure how many yet) jersey giant roosters that need a new home. I’m located in Delaware county New York and am will to drive to meet someone if they’re interested. Even if you just want one, comment or message me and we can make it happen. Thanks!
My favorite girl Bessie laid our first egg ever today just moments ago!!! I went out to see them as a frequently do and noticed she was nowhere to be found. I went into the coop and there she was inspecting her work singing her song!!! (Now we just have to work on using the nesting boxes). My 6...
Hi all! I live in upstate NY so the winters get really cold and the summers are moderate. I am currently converting a 10x12 metal shed to a coop for my family’s birds and was just looking for some input on where to put ventilation so it is adequate but will avoid frost bite and also not...
