She's been through a lot...wondering if this will heal without any lasting issues/limping.

Several weeks ago my neighbors hen got attacked by her dog. The wounds were nasty and deep, so I took her in and tried to help her heal up. Disinfectant, antibiotics, bandages, the works. But I somehow missed the most horrific part of her injury: a deep bite mark right behind her leg. By the...

    White Spots on Rooster's Comb

So my rooster has had these small white spots on his comb for months now, and I wasn't too worried about them before. But since they're still around I'd like to know what they are and how to treat them. The first picture is him in the spring/summer, and the second picture is pretty recent...

    Sexing Easter Egger/Australorp Chicks

Hey everyone! So my hen hatched these two chicks all on her own and they're about five weeks old now. I was wondering if they were pullets or cockerels. My guess is one hen and one roo, but I'm not confident yet. Any guesses? (I think they both have pea combs btw) Chick 1: Chick 2: Together

    Egg bound?

This morning I came out to the coop to see my Orpington hen looking like the pictures below. She hasn’t been acting super lethargic or anything but I’m worried she’s eggbound. Any thoughts?

    Bloody poop? (Content warning)

This morning I noticed that there was clear feces with what I could only guess was blood in it, in my coop. It was one of my new pullets in the separated area. Later in the day I saw it again, and I’m really worried. My chickens aren’t showing any signs of illness that I’ve noticed. (If there is...

Basement flood - wet chicken food

So I’ve been storing my chicken food in my basement and recently it flooded and got all of my food wet. I know I can’t use it now because of mold, but what do I do with it now? I don’t want to dump it in the woods because there’s a fox around, but I feel like I’d be wasting it throwing it out...

    Guineas killed… by what?

Both of my Guinea fowls (Gibby and Guppy) have been attacked by an animal while I wasn’t at home. I definitely regret leaving them out of my supervision and I’ll be more careful in the future. The mystery of what killed my guineas stump me. I’m in central Pennsylvania and we have an...

    Who’s egg is this?

Okay so I have 4 buff Orpingtons, 2 have combs and are laying. The other 2 don’t even have growing combs yet. I have 1 Easter egger that lays green eggs and she’s quarantined by herself right now. I have 1 female Guinea fowl and she’s 14 weeks old. I found this super tiny brown egg and I was...

    Lethargic Chicken?

My Easter egger hen, Chip, has been acting slow and lethargic. I believe it’s because I left the tops of strawberries in their treat, but I’m also wondering if she could be egg bound. She has been drinking a lot of water and just standing still and closing her eyes. Any advice on how to help her?

    Plum is missing!

This is my buff Orpington, Plum. She just started laying eggs between this week and last week. Today I realized that she had been gone all day. I feel like a bad chicken mom but I figured she’d turn up. She didn’t. I free range my chickens and I’m probably going to keep them in the run even...

    EE Orpington cross?

So this is my rooster, Moo, and his Orpington girls. If I were to let my hens go broody and hatch some chicks, what color would they be?

    Rooster: keep or no?

I have an EE cockerel and recently he’s breed trying to mate my hens a lot. I have 5 Orpington pullets and 1 EE pullet. Is that enough as a hen-to-roo ratio?

    Rooster effecting egg laying?

So I have 5 20w/o buff Orpington pullets and 2 EEs. My cousin told me to get rid of my EE cockerel and they’ll start laying. I find that hard to believe because my rooster is generally nice. My family keeps peer pressuring me to get rid of him, and my mom told me she refuses to eat a fertilized...

    Keeping chickens off the porch/deck/patio?

Alright, so I have 7 chickens and 2 Guinea fowl, and they all end up on the porch/deck/patio in the 2 seconds I’m not watching them. Any ideas on how to keep them away from the porch?

    Anyone want a rooster? (PA)

This is Moo, and I’m giving him away for free. This is because I can’t have any roos and I was traumatized after killing my other roo. He is a 13 week old Easter Egger cockerel and he is very nice. He lets me pet him and pick him up if he’s close enough. He has only crowed a few times so far...

    Culling…

Today I had to use the cervical dislocation method on my rooster. This is the first time I’ve done it and I feel really bad, traumatized even. If you’ve killed a chicken before, how do you cope with it? I can’t stop thinking about it.

    Hen or Roo?

These are my two guinea keets. They’re about 6 weeks old and I’m wondering if they’re both little hens. I got them from my aunt so I’m not sure.

    Roosters I can’t keep

These are my two 12 week old cockerels, Rio and Moo. Unfortunately I can’t keep them because I can only have an all hen flock. I’m considering culling Rio (the back one) soon because he’s starting to pick on my girls. Is this cruel? I don’t have any other way to get rid of him without it being...

    Pullet or Cockerel? (EE)

This is my 12 week Easter egger, Moo. I’m like 90% sure this chicken is a cockerel, but I just want to confirm.

    Digger or storm damage?

There are these small holes in the ground next to my chicken coop and rabbit hutch (which has Guinea keets in it). There was a pretty bad thunderstorm last night that knocked some trees over, and I’m wondering if these holes are from a small critter or storm damage. Any guesses?
