After losing half of our flock, we decided to get a rooster to help protect our girls. We were given one by our kind neighbor. She said his claws and spurs would grow back. (All are missing) If so, how long does this take? There would be no purpose in keeping him as a protector if his "weapons"...
Half of my flock went missing (7 out of 14). Yes, I let them free range, so I automatically assume it's a predator. My poor girls. I went around on the property looking for feathers/corpses and did find a pile of feathers from one. Then I actually found a whole bird, but she wasn't attacked...
So my Amercuana laid this today. First for me. I did a little research. She isn't displaying any kind if illness, being her regular self. All the other girls seem fine too. So I ruled out sickness. She has been laying daily, so I ruled out her doubling up. So my last guess is a possible double...
Started my first 4 last year (Barred Rock, Buff Orpington, RIR and Isa Brown). Added two more from a neighbor Amercuana and Maran). Bought three more this last February (Olive Egger, Prarie Bluebell and an EE)
Then added 3 more this March (Black Majesty Maran and 2 Silver Laced Wyandottes)...
