    Clear Liquid From Vent

I am posting too much here goodness… My disabled silkie squirts a clear liquid from her vent whenever she preens herself back there. Is this normal or is there something else possibly going on? There’s no smell to it or her either.

    Chick N’ Swell Products?

Is Chick N’ Swell worth buying? I’m loving the way they have products for specific things and all in one place, but I’m not sure if it’s worth the buy or not? Anyone know any further information or have any experience with it?

    Slipped Tendon?

This lil guy hatched a couple days ago with the issue. I want to assume tendon issue, but I’ve never dealt with this before. Can’t stretch the leg out fully and the hock is swollen.

    Toms & Roosters Comparison

This isn’t a serious question but one out of curiosity on behalf of my partner. Do tom turkeys treat hens like a rooster would? Such as with something the equivalent of tidbitting? Or are toms just in it for the fun season?

    Disabled House Chicken

I have a hen that had wry neck in the beginning of February, and now has neurological problems. Which— no issue, now she gets pampered! She’s so sassy and acts so spoiled, too! She was raised indoors essentially so she seems to understand what we say a lot more than we give credit for...

    Sudden Death Without Warning

To clarify, I’m asking on behalf of someone else and not my own experiences. 2-3 year old rooster suddenly dead without any prior warning, having been fine hours earlier—crowing, no injuries, no lethargy, etc. Found stiff with maggots already in the mouth. Any ideas about what could have...

    Squid.

I thought Squid being dramatic about seeing me in PJs was just hilarious, so here it be. Still not sure if Squid is a tom or a hen, but I am a little more than 50% sure that he’s a tom! He’s very chatty—screaming for no reason, all the time, with all his heart—and I think I can feel a beard...

Month Old Chick Behaviour (roo or hen?)

Not that serious, just something weird! I love this look goofball because he, or she, just seems to not know how to chicken most of the time. Anyways, I was just giving this little dude some attention and suddenly “he’s” crouching down and puffing “his” bum up. At first I thought nothing of it...

    Crows in Ontario?

As someone who adores birds more than people, it’s safe to say there isn’t a bird out there I wouldn’t want to be able to pamper. I know non-native crows are able to be kept as pets, but every time I try to do any research regarding breeders and legality in Ontario, CA, I cannot find anything...

    Is happy shaking a thing?

I’m not concerned because I know my little dude is okay, but it confuses me. It’s the last chick of the season and the youngest compared to the couple-month olds, so it stays with its mum in its own pen. Momma loves her baby—as in, lots of happy purrs—but she wants to free range during the...

    Eggs or Beard?

I know how to sex chickens from an early age, but both ducks and turkeys have me confused. I recently—more like a month or two ago—bought two poults, with one not making it. I knew something was wrong when I brought it home, but I couldn’t find the confidence to contact the seller about it...

Only black ones are being sold. Message privately for address for pick-up and or phone number for better contact...

    Battery Hens in Southern, ON

As someone with a HUGE soft spot for poultry, especially chickens trapped in the commercial battery business, I have wanted to provide a home for battery hens for a long time. After some research on how to care for them—which is beyond simple, surprisingly—I realized I have no idea where to even...

    The Toaster — Coop Blog

I don’t post here as much as I want to, but I figured to start a post that I update whenever I remember it exists. For now, I definitely want to show off my silkies! Given all—except one—are white, I’ve named them… more generically. The tall boy is Cloud! He’s a little shy and has no idea...

    Wry Neck Issues

I had one chicken with wry neck, and now I have two. I’m not sure what’s going on or what could be going on. I’ve been giving the first chicken sunflower and pumpkin seeds to up her Vit. E intake and it seems to help. She’s been improving slowly, but not at a pace I’m content with. Both chickens...

    Vets in Southern Ontario?

I live in the very southern parts of Ontario, south of London—in Chatham-Kent. I need a veterinarian, but can’t find any clinics that take in poultry! I cannot go to Windsor, and there’s a slim chance that I can head as far as London. Does anyone know of any vets that see poultry in the...

    2m/o silkie shaking head/wobbly?

Not sure what’s going on! Definitely urgent as she’s not eating! It’s so sad, because she’s preening herself and yet her head is being thrown around like a rag doll. I will say she does have lice unfortunately, but I’m so unsure what’s going on? She’s moving or trying to and stuff she just won’t...

    Turkey News

Not much of a question post, but a celebration for me! I’ve never raised turkeys before, nor other poultry aside from chickens fully. So I’m extremely excited about today! I went out to check on my two lovely ladies and found these on the ground! They’ve successfully made it to being ~7...

    Turkey Crouch Meaning?

I think I already know what it means, I’d just like confirmation. She thinks I’m a tom, doesn’t she? AKA this is mating behaviour? If that’s the case, this makes two birds who want me. Neither of which being the same gender. I am both a tom and a hen now.

    Hen Randomly Chasing Own Chicks

Not sure if this is the place to put this, but oh well. Strange thing happened today. It’s nice out so I let my hen and her chicks outside for a bit. Rooster came over, which is normal, but then she started attacking and chasing her chicks? It was so sudden! She grabbed one by the tail and held...
