Good morning!
I have been having egg eating issues (check Egg eating troubles. Are roll away nesting boxes the solution? for more information) and I think that roll away nesting boxes are my only hope at this point. Any links to a nesting box set that would fit around 30 hens would be...
Hello fellow chicken keepers!
I have twenty laying hens (planning on adding more soon) and have been experiencing egg eating problems. I have tried collecting eggs hourly and have also tried fake eggs etc. I saw roll away nesting boxes as an idea to break the habit, but I would like to know...
One of my buff Orpingtons has been sick a few weeks. I'm not sure how to help her. She barely eats and looks miserable. I separated her from the flock, and she is contained in the garage. What else can I do to help her?
Thank you,
I recently learned about the importance of deworming chickens but am unsure of how to begin. I have a flock of 20 chickens. Which dewormer is recommended, and is it possible to create a homemade dewormer? As I am new to raising chickens, any help would be greatly appreciated :)
Thank you,
I am trying to start water glassing some of my eggs. Online it says to use only clean eggs, but I almost never get perfectly clean ones. Most of my eggs have at least a tiny smudge of dirt or a tiny bit of calcium on them. How clean do they have to be to safely waterglass?
I have 12 nesting boxes five of them are on ground level (I wish they weren't as this makes me nervous) and 20 hens. All my hens fight over the four nesting boxes that look different. Some hens even try laying on top of each other. They only started laying two weeks ago, and I'm not sure if they...
I have got a broken egg two days in a row. The first one I saw at night, and it had no shell left. I checked the nesting box yesterday at noon and there was another egg cracked, I couldn't tell if this one had been broken by a beak or a hen's weight. Do I have an egg eater? Also, my hens have...
I have a hen who has been laying for around a week. She only lays on the floor in the same spot. I have around one nesting box per 2 hens. How do I fix this? Also, I don't know if this matters, but yesterday she layed a double yolk egg.
I have 20 hens, 8 Buff Orpingtons, 5 Silver Laced Sussex, 2 Isa Browns, 4 Ameraucanas, and one mystery hen. They all are 9 months old. I have lights in the coop and a few months ago, one hen started laying. Then three days later we had a cold snap and she stopped laying. I have not got an egg...
I looked out the window and saw a random duck! It was wandering in circles in my field. I wanted to help it, but it might have been sick, so I had to just watch. :hit:thIt walked to a nearby creek.
Good luck duck!
Today I went to feed the girls thinking it was going to be a normal day. They were eating dinner and then I glanced at the nesting boxes and saw it, the first egg! I am so excited to finally get an egg.It is so good looking too. I think a Americana layed it. I have twenty hens so I hope to get...
My chickens get a lot of scraps. I like to give them leftovers that we don't eat. But what abought spaghetti, or a meat soup? What meats are safe to feed chickens? Another question how long it is safe to let the scraps sit out on the counter in my scrap bucket before feeding it to the chickens I...
We just got two piglets! They are so cute! They are doing lots of sleeping. We wore them out last night :lau They are eight weeks old and darling; we got one boy and a girl. We might breed the girl at some point. We have not named them. So much fun! Anyone else have pigs?
I want to let my chickens have access to the pigpen so they can have more room. Will a pig eat the chickens? We do not have the pigs yet, but I want the chickens to have access to the area the pigs will use and am wondering if I can safely let the hens into the pigpen after it is occupied by pigs.
My coop doesn't have electricity. I use extension cord for the lights, but that is all. We have mild winters where I live, but it has been getting cold at night. I have been finding ice in my chicken's water. I filled it up in the garage sink with warm water, but it is really hard to carry as my...
